The latest installment of the Kylemore Book Club, To Hell or to Connacht: Stories of Irish Resilience, will focus on the history, politics, and culture of the west of Ireland where Kylemore is located. For years, Western Ireland has been a sanctuary for writers, musicians, and artists, and it is equally known for inclement weather, harsh landscapes, and mass emmigration. This series will explore what it is about the west of Ireland that is so unique and enigmatic.

This series, named for a quote oft-attributed to Oliver Cromwell, will examine the history, music, and geopolitical reality of the west of Ireland through the lens of sport. The Global Centre at Kylemore has partnered with Connacht Rugby to trace the development of rugby in the region and how they have become world contenders. Topics will range from the history of the province, the techniques of rugby, the global impact of the Irish diaspora, and the growth of inclusivity and gender equality for female athletes. Each week, we will feature distinguished guests from historians, to athletes and coaches to musicians and composers demonstrating the unique connection to America.

The University of Notre Dame Rugby Program is not an intercollegiate varsity team, and is entirely self-funded club, through student dues & fundraisers, as well as generous gifts and contributions from Irish Rugby Alumni & Friends. In order to compete at the highest level of collegiate rugby in America, provide the best possible student experience, and sustain the continued growth of the program, we need the support of the Notre Dame Rugby Family! In partnership with the University of Notre Dame Development Office, the program makes it easy for all of our supporters to make a tax-deductable gift to the University, 100% of which will go directly to the rugby program.

Interested in supporting the program? Access the Notre Dame Rugby Donation site from your computer or smartphone.
