The CHSP Diversity Advisors communicate with providers in a number of ways including via this monthly LM CHSP Diversity News e bulletin. The mailout list has recently been updated to include all senior managers and team leader of CHSP services in Loddon Mallee. Around 300 CHSP staff across this region currently have the opportunity to read about diversity related updates on expected practice from the Commonwealth, regional diversity training opportunities as well as share examples of practice (see below) that stem from effective diversity planning

See below two examples of newly funded initiatives that stem from effective diversity planning through exploring and understanding the local  population demographic and known LGBTI statistics:

Afghan Men’s Group - a Social Support initiative in Swan Hill!
 After discussions with the Swan Hill District Health refugee nurse it was identified that Afghani men were a vulnerable group in our community in need of social support....read more
Mallee Family Care in partnership with Drummond Street have secured funding for a LGBTIQA+ family counselling program . For more information contact the project officer Margrete  here
The Census is happening now! 

Homelessness/risk of:
With awareness raising about impact of the '
rental affordability crisis' during the recent National Homelessness Week and specific ABS guides circulated to specialist homelessness services the quest is on to count people and their living situation as accurately as possible.    Homelessness census brochure

LGBTI standard:
This LGBTIQ+ Health Australia Factsheet includes a useful standard for organisations though not as yet all reflected in census questions : ABS Standard for Sex, Gender, Variations of Sex Characteristics and Sexual Orientation Variables  
Reading matters:
The summary from the State of the (Older) Nation Report from COTA highlights some of the impact from the COVID year(s) especially the more vulnerable older Australians. 
The Sector Development Teams from Hume and Loddon Mallee met recently to continue preparations for the upcoming Ya-Yapaneyepuk Aboriginal Cultural Awareness Forum & EXPO to be held in Moama 26/27 October.

COVID-19 Aged Care Grief and Trauma Support Services:
Increasingly we are coming to understand the importance of trauma informed care - what does it mean and who is affected? Have you heard of Phoenix Australia? How can they help? The Australian Department of Health have collected resources here 
 

Next Loddon Mallee LGBTIQ+ Community of Practice is on Thursday 26th August 1pm on line. Come along to hear updates from guests Thorne Harbour Country and Switchboard and find out about the services and support that they can provide. EOI to Virginia.
