Have you remembered Woodlawn in your estate planning?

 August 2021

Welcome:
Welcome and THANK YOU for your interest in the Woodlawn Endowment and Planned Giving Program Newsletter. The primary purpose of the Permanent Endowment Program is to provide a means for members and constituents of The Church to make gifts and bequests to provide a permanent endowment that will become a source for long-term financial support and living memorials to their faith.

2021 Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)
You generally have to start taking withdrawals from your IRA, SEP IRA, SIMPLE IRA, or retirement plan account when you reach age 72 (70 ½ if you reach 70 ½ before January 1, 2020).  This is a reminder, for those affected, to start planning on how to take your RMD this year.  Last year RMDs were waved because of the COVID pandemic, but the requirement resumes for 2021.  By making a charitable donation directly from your tax deferred account to the Church, you reduce your taxable income while honoring your pledge without impacting your monthly cash flow.

Website updates:
Most people wanting information about a business or institution today start with an internet search and expect to find a user-friendly website to answer their questions and help them make decisions and/or take actions.  The Church has a great website and it is an excellent source of information about almost anything you want to know about the Church.  On the “GIVING” section there is a link to
THE WOODLAWN FAMILY ENDOWMENT page.  This page has recently been updated to make it easier for you to access the information you may need.  We hope you use it as a resource for making estate planning decisions for your family.   Woodlawn works closely with The Kansas Area United Methodist Foundation (KAUMF) for many of its financial needs.  They have one of the best websites to guide you through the estate planning process.  We have created links from the Woodlawn Endowment website to some of the appropriate KAUMF pages.  We hope you find the improvements useful and would appreciate any questions or feedback on how we could make it better.

The growing world of Podcasts:

In our fast paced and ever-evolving world of media content, there is the relative new entry of podcasts.  Smart phones have applications (apps) to allow easy search and selection of the many podcast offerings.  The world of finance is no exception.  These podcasts can be entertaining as well as informative and make multi-tasking with housework, yardwork, driving, etc., more productive.  Here are a few you might find interesting:
