Hello Market Friends!

Did you know that it’s National Farmers Market Week? Let’s celebrate!

What a wonderful opportunity for us all to recognize the incredible role that farmers markets across the nation play in all of our communities - hard working farmers and vendors who provide healthy fresh foods, small businesses who have the opportunity to showcase their wares and build their businesses, communities who can come together each week, and so much more!

Here are 5 of our favorite benefits of shopping at farmers markets!

1. TASTE REAL FLAVORS OF THE SEASON
The produce at farmers markets is picked at the peak of ripeness, resulting in more flavor and nutrients than what you’ll find at traditional supermarkets. Enjoy food free of pesticides, hormones, antibiotics and genetic modification. Plus the variety you’ll find is unmatched!

2. KNOW WHERE YOUR FOOD COMES FROM
Talk to our farmers to learn about their farming practices. Get expert advice about what you are buying, and how to clean, store and prepare it. Shopping at farmers markets will help you make healthier food choices!

3. HELP PROTECT OUR ENVIRONMENT
The food that is available at farmers markets travels a shorter distance since it’s distributed locally, which means less resources are used, there are less greenhouse gas emissions, and there are more benefits to the environment.

4. ENJOY A SENSE OF COMMUNITY SPIRIT
Shopping at farmers markets is a fun family event that brings the community together in a beautiful outdoor environment. You’ll meet and get to know farmers, vendors and other customers, while learning about the food you are feeding your family.

5. STIMULATE THE LOCAL ECONOMY
Rather than supporting gigantic corporations, you are supporting small local businesses and family farms when you shop at a farmers market. That is always good for the heart and soul!

We are so grateful for everyone in our market family who works hard each week to bring the best of the best to La Jolla, and we are so appreciative of the support of our loyal farmers, vendors and customers. For almost 23 years, The La Jolla Open Aire Market has been a staple in our community, and we don’t take for granted a single Sunday that we get to spend with you all! Happy National Farmers Market Week!
See you Sunday, San Diego.
Shop safely. Support local.

PAPA’S GARDEN
Family owned and operated since 2011, Papa’s Garden features farm fresh duck and chicken eggs, local raw honey, citrus, and our favorite: their orange and other seasonal juices that they hand squeeze on site. It doesn’t get fresher than that!

Hichem and Lesa, along with their three daughters Yasmine, Sharine and Sabrine, work hard on their beautiful farm in Alpine each week in order to provide our community with the loveliest farm fresh goodness. In addition to their own eggs, they also represent Hilliker's Egg Ranch from Lakeside.

You can find Papa’s Garden at the south side of our market, just past the covered lunch arbor. Come say hello and let them squeeze you a refreshing cup of vitamin packed juice while you pick out the perfect eggs for your breakfasts all week!
MALA REVOLUTION
If you’ve ever entered our market from upper Girard at Genter Street, you have no doubt seen this complete ray of sunshine, who is most often the very last one to leave the market each week, as she is always so busy engaging with new friends and customers. Meet Liz with Mala Revolution. Dedicated to bringing mindfulness and intention into everyday life while supporting charity organizations that do good in the world and for humanity, Mala Revolution offers amazing handcrafted jewelry including malas, necklaces and bracelets.

While working as a successful but stressed television producer with a job that many would dream of, Liz felt that she wasn’t making a positive impact in the world and wasn’t working for a deeper purpose. She began practicing yoga to help manage stress and discovered the positive impact of a mala, running her fingers through the beads in moments of distress. She lost her beloved father after spending his last weeks by his side, and realized quickly that "life is too short to not live it with heart, with soul, and above all with a passion for being alive”.

“Life is what we make of it, so don’t only live fully……live deeply. Never stop growing, never stop becoming your truest and best self. This is my way of celebrating the gift of being alive."

Stop by the turf section along the market gates on upper Girard to meet Liz, hear her wonderful stories, and pick out the perfect mala. Liz is sure to warm your heart and bring a smile to your face!

In the meantime, to learn more about gemstones, using malas for meditation, and for tips on setting intentions, visit malarevolution.com.
