News
- The EA Infrastructure Fund is looking to fund non-EA branded groups. These can be non-geographically-based groups, groups discussing blogs like Astral Codex Ten or LessWrong, or other cause area-based groups.
- Open Philanthropy is seeking proposals for outreach projects related to improving the long-term future.
- Consider sharing this post with your group members and individually reaching out to specific members who you think might be a good fit.
- Open Philanthropy is also funding academics for the development of EA-adjacent university courses.
- If you are a student organiser, and know a professor who’d be a good fit, please email bastian@openphilanthropy.org about them, rather than sharing the link or introducing them.
- The EA Forum team is trialling a new Groups and Events feature. Currently, only 6 groups are listed, but if the trial goes well, they'll add all public groups and will give organisers the ability to post events.
- There are two opportunities for Jewish people interested in EA
- Two profession-based groups have launched recently: the Effective Altruism Medicine Network, and a Slack workspace for EA Creatives and Communicators. Feel free to refer anyone interested in those professions to those spaces.
- EA Bayreuth and EA Tübingen are organising a retreat in October for all German-speaking participants from virtual programs and online/in-person fellowships. The weekend will include a mix of organised and participant-driven programmes, as well as lots of time to socialise and get to know the German EA community better. Find more information here and the registration form here (both in German).
- Reminder: EA Virtual Programs will now be offered every month! The next round runs the week of September 6 through to the week of October 25. The deadline to apply is Sunday, August 29th. Current offerings include an Introductory Program, an In-Depth Program, and a reading group for The Precipice.
- Online events can be found on the international EA events Google calendar, the EA online events Facebook group, or the #events channel on the EA Groups Slack (join link).

Resources for In-Person Meetups
As some groups are lucky enough to be moving to in-person events (hooray for vaccines!), we’ve updated our Guide to Running In-Person Events with more tips about planning, venues, food, and more.
As the COVID-19 situation evolves, we encourage you to keep an eye on local guidelines and make informed decisions about whether to resume in-person meetups.
Not sure whether to run an event, or what safety precautions to take? Microcovid recently updated their calculator to account for the Delta variant, which might help you understand the risks involved.

Advertising Intro Fellowships and EA Uni Groups
We have several resources available for university groups getting ready to advertise for the upcoming semester:
- We’ve just released a new advertising advice article for Introductory Fellowships. Among other things, it contains template graphics from other groups that you can use in your own marketing.
- In addition, Marie Buhl will be running advertising workshops on August 14 and August 29 for groups running introductory programs. The goal is that all participants will have an actionable marketing plan by the end. More information and sign-up is here.
- We’re working with a graphic designer to provide new graphics templates for groups, which should be available around mid-August. We plan to send out an email to Northern Hemisphere university group organizers around then, but feel free to email groups@centreforeffectivealtruism.org if you’d like early access.
- You may also find our resources on Clubs Fairs and Lightning Giving Games helpful as you prepare for promotional events at your university.

Group Spotlight: Arushi Gupta,
EA NYC
“I used to visit India with my family every year, and I’d see kids in dire poverty on the streets. It seemed obviously unfair to me that they were in this situation and that I lived a life of such privilege, purely due to an accident of birth. I felt like it was imperative for me to solve these problems.”
