Village History Walk

Sunday 22nd August

meet 15:30
at the Hinds Head Car Park

approx.60-90mins
As a preliminary to having an indoor meeting, the committee thought a short instructive walk around the village would enable us to meet and chat. Peter Oldridge has kindly agreed to lead the walk and will base it on the many walks with parties of Aldermaston school children so they can understand the heritage that is here.

If this is successful, we look to repeat the walk for those that can't make this one and to look at other historic walks around the area.

It's not essential but helpful if you to this email if you intend attending so we get a feel for numbers.

Heritage Open Days

The History Group is co-organiser with the Aldermaston Church for this now traditional event.  Once again it's a chance to informally walk around this beautiful historic building and also another chance to catch up with History Group members and committee members.

An additional feature this year will be mini tours of the external part of the manor house lead by Peter Oldridge - subject to weather and permissions.

If anyone is available to help steward please reply to this email.

Can you help?

Dear Local History Group

We realize that strictly speaking this does not come under the banner of ‘local’ history as such however, retired Naval families settled all over the UK. Could this be shared within your group/s?

We are struggling to reach ex Wrens and so are blanketing any avenue where we might reach people who can help us to make contact with them for this community based project.

Many thanks

I would like some information on Clark’s saddlery business, if you have it please.
Does not need to be in-depth. I have a pre WWI photograph showing it at the site of present stores by Hinds Head and would like some information to accompany the view.

When saddlery business established / Christian name ??? Clark /when established at that site / when it became a PO etc.

Regards
Carol
