MABC Region News:
Brought to you by the MABC Mission & Stewardship Team
The Mission and Stewardship Team will be sharing insights from a book entitled:
Double Blessing by Mark Batterson (2019),
This is the last entry in this series.
“There’s only one way to grow in the grace of giving,
and that is to give more.”
“Bruce Wilkerson keeps a stash of cash in what he calls the ‘God Pocket’.
The God Pocket is a specific location in your wallet or purse
where you keep money you have devoted to God
so that you can give it to someone in need
as soon as He nudges you to do so.”
“God is in the business of strategically positioning
us in the right place at the right time.
He is ordering our footsteps and preparing good works in advance.
And that means the person next to you isn’t there by accident.
May God give us the peripheral vision to spot the divine appointments that are around us all the time.”
Thank you Mission and Stewardship Team for sharing this great resource!

Empathy, hope and healing in the Midway
Bethlehem Lutheran in the Midway invites the community into a Respectful Conversation that will focus not on changing minds, but on softening hearts while discussing our future together. The conversations have about the events of the past year sometimes feel like pick-a-side and fight-it-out discussions that leave us feeling worse about the people we disagree with, and sometimes worse about ourselves. There is a way to talk about it all that feels open and honest. You can actually be heard and learn about people with other perspectives. Thousands of Minnesotans have participated in Respectful Conversations since 2012. These facilitated, structured conversations are designed not to change minds, but soften hearts on topics that divide us. Experience a Respectful Conversation for yourself on Tuesday, August 24, from 6:00 – 8:30pm at Bethlehem Lutheran in the Midway. Your elected leaders and this congregation have chosen to be a source of peace, cooling the heat of divisive conversations through a Respectful Conversation. Join in to learn how you can have a great conversation that builds empathy even over division.
“This process was wonderful and hope-filled.” –previous participant

UnityPoint Health connects Iowans to local social services through new online tool
On the new "Together We Care" website,
Iowans can search for services by ZIP code or category.
It then gives you who to reach out to for help.
The goal is to address the economic and social needs of patients.
UnityPoint Health Des Moines providers can now use the tool to make referrals for patients, too.
Special thanks to Rev. Gary Martin, Associate Region Minister for this information.
Considering College in the Future:
Franklin College was founded in 1834 by American Baptist pioneers and continues a voluntary relationship with our denomination. From its earliest days Franklin has offered excellent education and allows students to thrive through intimate class sizes, individual mentorship, and focused attention. Students are challenged to be self-motivated, lifelong learners who serve and lead in the community. Franklin has a strong religious life program that encourages discipleship and spiritual growth through service and learning.
As an American Baptist pastor and Franklin College alumna, I am happy to share about the opportunities available. Students and parents as well as older youth groups are welcomed for campus visits!
