All Saints News

You’ve heard the expression, “When the cat's away, the mice will play?”
Well not these mice, thank you very much!  Since Rev. Marya has been on her well-deserved vacation, the mice have been working diligently!  Michelle Behling and Erika Bianchi have been pumping out the bulletins, and making sure we have the necessary readers for our hybrid Zoom and in-person services.
The committee in charge of hybrid and technology, Lisa Palmer, Fran Weil, Brett Johnson, John Churchwell and Diane Manning, have been perfecting our blended services with wonderful results.
And our audience now spills over to Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/AllSaintsNorthshore),where we stream the services in concert with Zoom and in-person, expanding our reach even further. If you have friends or family who want to dip their toes in and try us, invite them to Zoom or Facebook. And, if you missed a service, no worries. You can catch up by finding the service and streaming it on Facebook.
Incidentally, the recently launched “Have it Both Ways” mini campaign to raise $5,000 to support the purchase of digital software and hardware for the hybrid experience, has already reached nearly $3,000, with 14 donors opting in with generous donations. You can read the story about hybrid and learn why folks are supporting it, in the article in this issue.
The Property Team, Sue Spencer, Lisa Palmer, Bruce Manning, Bill Graves and Jim Gordon, are making great progress chipping away at their to-do list. Two major projects have been completed – the de-leading and painting of the Stepping Stones classroom, and caulking and painting the outside windows of the sanctuary. Rev. Brett and Rev. Jim have been tending to our pastoral needs, and leading our hybrid services with love and tender care.
At the beginning of the summer, we believed -- as most did -- that we were rounding the Covid corner, and we lifted most of the safety restrictions at All Saints.  But recently, with the Delta variant causing serious concern, I gathered the Safety Committee together to reassess. The team unanimously recommended to the vestry that we immediately reinstate the mask and distancing mandate for in-person worship, as well as all events taking place inside All Saints. The vestry also unanimously approved the reinstatement of the mandate.
We look forward to welcoming Rev. Marya back on Sunday,  August 22, and expect to offer a host of wonderful formation and fellowship events in the fall, including Rev. Brett’s book club, so stay tuned to FYI, and make sure you don’t miss anything!

If you need anything, or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the Parish Office or your Wardens. We should all be proud of All Saints. It is a strong, caring and loving community.  And, it has some very enterprising “mice” who continue to work to ensure the welfare of this cohesive and robust community.
Peace and love to you all,   Gail

COVID UPDATE – MASK MANDATE
Last Friday, the Safety Committee of All Saints met to discuss the surge in Covid cases, due to the Delta variant. After discussion, the committee strongly recommended to the Vestry that the mandatory wearing of face masks indoors be reinstated. Over the weekend, the Vestry voted to accept that recommendation. Anyone entering the building, for any reason, vaccinated or unvaccinated, is required to wear a mask. This is effective immediately. This means, therefore, that beginning this coming Sunday, August 8, until further notice, everyone attending in-person worship must wear a mask.
This is not a decision we came to lightly, but with the highly contagious Delta variant, we felt
we had to protect each other and ourselves. We cannot let our guard down now. Everyone's
cooperation is greatly appreciated. Let's pray this mandate is only for a short time.

Book Study: CHURCH
What will "church" look like as we re-emerge into the world, post-pandemic? How do you see your concept of church as having changed over the past year and a half? What is essential, as we move forward, and what is the "small stuff?" We will spend 5 weeks discussing these ideas and learning together. Once formed, the group will decide the optimal dates and way to meet (in-person, Zoom, hybrid). Please contact the office (978-774-1150 allstoffice@gmail.com) or Rev. Brett (brettrandalljohnson@gmail.com) if you are interested.

All Saints’ Campaign to Support Technology for Hybrid Services Hits 60% Mark

Within a few short weeks of its launch, the “Have it Both Ways” mini campaign to raise $5,000 in support of digital hardware and software equipment for All Saints’ hybrid services has grown to nearly $3,000, or 60 percent of our goal.
Fourteen parishioners have already donated dollars to support our initiative to provide full and engaging worship for visitors -- in the pews and digitally, on Zoom --  allowing us to offer true, bidirectional worship in real time, giving people the choice to be where they can, where they feel safe, and be part of the body of Christ! Our hybrid services make it possible for All Saints to welcome everyone, locally, regionally and from as far away as Florida, California, and Canberra, Australia!
We also stream the worship services on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/AllSaintsNorthshore), and folks can comment as they watch on that more passive platform, but blending what’s happening in the sanctuary and on Zoom has been especially rewarding for participants.
Here’s what several of our donors had to say about why they contributed.
Ginna Coulson:“I was inspired to give in support of hybrid services because of the people at All Saints, particularly the four team members whose tireless work has made this possible. Fran, for your wisdom and vision, Lisa, for your perseverance and patience, John, for filling our sanctuary with the most beautiful music and song, and Brett, whose real name is Love! I brought a friend last week and he was overwhelmed by the love he felt in our words and music. So, let's spread the joy!”
Sue Dugan: “Not often in life are we given the opportunity to experience “the best of both worlds.” Hybrid certainly allowed all of us to continue to express together our love of God, our Church, and one another during a very difficult and stressful time. It has been -- and still is -- a “Godsend.” And, it has brought old and new faces to our midst!
“For me, the opportunity to physically return to All Saints has been very moving. To sing out loud, to kneel in prayer, to admire the beauty of our church.  And to look at all the smiling faces on the Zoom screen.”
Kathy Johnson: “The church we'd recently joined did not provide interactive worship services and I was feeling spiritually hungry, as well as lonely, for fellowship and worship each week. We live in Worcester County, an hour away from All Saints, so attending in person is not a viable option.  Zoom was the answer! In addition to being able to see faces, I enjoy John Churchwell's amazing music, the agape meal, homilies that do not shy away from what is happening around us, and communal prayer. “From the start, the wonderful people of All Saints made me feel like a welcome member of the family.  After a few months of attending, I was even invited to join the team of lay readers and discovered a joy and privilege I'd never known! We were happy to be able to contribute to the technology that has given me so much!”
Melissa West: “When COVID hit in March 2020, it was a scary time. We did not know what to expect, our routines were upended, and we were isolated. All Saints pivoted to Zoom and it was wonderful to see familiar faces and participate in our familiar faith practice -- a bit of normal in a crazy time. Our church immediately started reaching out to parishioners, making sure people were safe, offering Zoom Coffee Hour and sewing masks as our church stepped up during the global pandemic. I donated to ‘Have it Both Ways’ to help our church continue reaching out to all of us, making a difference in our community, and I am so grateful for all those who have made this possible.”
Please consider joining us in our quest to make every All Saints event fully accessible, either in person or on Zoom. Help us reach our goal of $5,000 by September.
To donate, please send a check to All Saints with the word “Hybrid” in the memo line, or go to our Website and donate, indicating ‘Hybrid” in the notation option. No gift is too small!
Thank you. See you in church!
