Executive Director’s Report

The Rev. Bob LawrenceSt. Christopher was blessed to host the 83rd season of Summer Camp with an amazing group of young adult summer staff that served so well throughout the summer. While we had to offer camp with reduced numbers and limitations under COVID prevention protocols, our hope was that the camper experience would continue unabated in enjoying fun, fellowship and an encounter with Jesus Christ. We were not disappointed. Jesus, the True King, was proclaimed throughout the summer with many campers making new or renewed professions of faith in Jesus as their Lord and Savior.  With the end of summer camp, we take a deep breath only long enough to shift gears for the advent of the Barrier Island Environmental Education season. Our new Naturalists arrive in the coming days to begin their own time of orientation and preparation for welcoming school groups beginning in September. A smaller contingent of only 7 Naturalists will arrive to be welcomed by Laurinda Rapp, newly appointed as the new Director of Environmental Education. Laurinda has served in an interim capacity as the Acting Director since the departure of the former director in early 2020. While we are still severely impacted by a greatly reduced demand of our Barrier Island ministry, with many public schools still prohibited from taking overnight field trips, we are blessed to welcome numerous smaller private and Christian schools. As our newest staff members soon inhabit the Britt Lowry Staff House, to make it their home away from home for the next nine months, they will notice a plaque that has hung in the living area for the past five years. Keep them, and all of us who share in God’s ministry here at St. Christopher in your prayers. As we continue to live with the ongoing threat and impact of this corona age.

Faithfully,

St. Christopher continues to be blessed by the volunteer assistance of others. The areas in which volunteers are most helpful include grounds maintenance with the Facility Staff, and food service assistance.  We welcome individuals and groups to share in these needs.  Facility needs are constant with volunteers welcomed at any time convenient for them.  Food Service needs are specific, and include assisting in the serving of meals to guest groups. All volunteers are best scheduled in advance for our own planning.

Intercessory Day of Prayer- August 21

Join us for intentional days of prayer for this ministry!
We meet at The Prayer Center on campus at 9:00am and begin with worshipping God in song and prayers of praise. We share prayer concerns for St. Christopher, our guests and staff, and the way we sense God moving in this place. By 9:45am we disperse to listen to God, to prayerfully walk the grounds or be still as God leads, attentive to what we sense in creation all around us, the scriptures that come to mind, and what we hear the Lord speaking. Around 11:15am, we re-gather to share what we have received. As each one shares, we witness how the Holy Spirit weaves a beautiful tapestry of words, images, nudges, scriptures, prophetic movements and songs. An identifiable theme often emerges. We each pray what we have received, now in agreement with one another, and we conclude our morning prayer time with thanksgiving. We maintain a record of what is shared and prayed. From time to time we review these faith-building notes to see how God is laying the groundwork for new seasons in this ministry. Following our prayer time, we invite intercessors to join us for lunch in the Dining Hall.

New Director of Environmental Education

Laurinda Rapp previously served as a Barrier Island Naturalist and Outdoor Encounter founder. She returned to St.Christopher in 2019 as the Assistant Director of Environmental Education, and has recently accepted the position as director.
