Dear <<First Name>>,

I hope all our community members are keeping cool and well! Just a reminder to always put your smile on and spend fun times with your loved ones. Back-to-school season is nearing, my children and I are cherishing these moments playing outdoor activities together! We are very lucky to be living near parks where we can enjoy the beautiful sunshine and nature.

Have your say on B.C.'s permanent paid sick leave

You shouldn't ever have to lose out on pay to protect your own health when you are sick! To those who did not have the choice to decide whether to stay home or not, we want to hear from you.

As this pandemic taught us how important it is to stay home when you are unwell, our government is introducing three days of paid sick leave. This program will allow anyone to access paid sick days and rest at home whenever you need to.

We are inviting both workers and employers to participate in a short survey to help us shape the program. Please visit engage.gov.bc.ca/paidsickleave/ until September 14 to raise your voice. It does not require any of your personal information and all the responses will be kept confidential.

Skills training programs

With many people currently facing incredible challenges due to the impacts the pandemic has had on the job market, I am extremely excited to announce an investment of $95 million in skills training programs. My Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training is helping over 9,000 British Columbians to re-skill or up-skill, so they can find the right job for them as our economy continues to recover. Through these programs, we believe that people will be able to support themselves and their families while also boosting our local economies!

If you or someone you know if unemployed or under-employed and looking to learn new skills, please visit here for more information.
New grants to promote reconciliation by educating people about B.C.'s past

While B.C. joined confederation 150 years ago, the history of our places stretched back to time immemorial. To heal and move forward, it is important that all of us see ourselves reflected in B.C.'s heritage and cultural programs. As an immigrant/settler myself, I believe that it is important for us to educate ourselves to honour the resilience both Indigenous and non-Indigenous marginalized communities have shown.

Our government is announcing the new $30 million 150 Time Immemorial grant program that will support projects focused on advancing reconciliation and promoting inclusivity and diversity for the province’s future.

Together, we can reflect on our whole story and work together to make B.C. even better for generations to come. To learn more, please click here.
Additional financial support for Lytton, wildfire evacuees

As British Columbians, we deeply care about helping others who are going through challenging times. The recent wildfire affected Burnaby as well a few days ago, smoke covering our sky.

To help people in Lytton, our government is teaming up with the Red Cross to provide Lytton area household impacted by the wildfire with one-time $2,000 payments. In addition, all other households in B.C. under mandatory evacuation orders for longer than 10 consecutive days will be eligible to receive a one-time payment as well.

"Beyond the current supports to address immediate needs, we're hoping that by putting cash in the pockets of those who have lost everything, we can help them find some comfort during this difficult time." said Premier John Horgan.
