Talk of the Town News

This week at the Talking Shop

Happy Saturday!

That weather is a bit better than expected. A good day for the Artisan Market at Market Place that’s on until 3pm. Have you tried Hummus by Hani? It’s the best hummus I’ve tasted and is made locally :-)

If you missed this month’s market, the next one will be on 4th September.

This week at the Talking Shop we had our first ever book club. We got together to discuss Rob Hopkins From What Is to What If? Unleashing the power of our imaginations to create the future we want.

The book was inspiring and provoked lots of conversation and reflection. We were talking so much that we didn’t have time to select our next book and decide when we’re going to meet.

The good news is that you can help make those decisions if you’re interested in joining us. Drop me an email and I’ll include you in the book group emails.

What’s on this week at the Talking Shop

Carrick after Covid conversation - 11 August at 7pm, reply to this newsletter and I’ll send you the zoom link on the Wednesday so you can join the conversation.

Wildest Dream Postcards - What next?

We’re hosting 5 conversations in August and we’re hoping you can join one (or more!)

If you'd like to take part but aren’t comfortable coming into the shop, let us know and we’ll organise an online conversation.

Music in the Courtyard Garden

We’re excited about next Saturday in The Courtyard garden when we’ll be joined by

The Flame N’Ukes from 12-2pm.

The Gasworks Traditional Music Society from 2-4pm

And Carrick Sing will be back on Tuesday from 3-4pm and 7-8pm in The Courtyard Garden just outside our shop. Everyone is welcome, even if you think you can’t sing!

If you’re part of a musical group and would like to play in the garden, we’d love to hear from you.

Visual Noise Event

Lynn, one of our directors, has been working really hard to put together this exciting event with our local skate shop, youth workers and other partners.

Visual Noise is an urban sports event that will take place at Carrick Skatepark on 21 August from 2-5pm.

Carrick Skatepark is the only concrete outdoor skatepark in Northern Ireland.

The event will celebrate the urban sports culture in Carrick and will feature live music, pro demos and a documentary featuring local skaters.

Free tickets are available on Eventbrite and capacity is limited so as to keep everyone safe.

Have you ever been to Flame Gasworks Museum? Did you know that it is one of only three preserved gasworks in Britain and Ireland?

The volunteer team at the museum have been in touch to let us know that they are back in action.

FLAME GASWORKS is open for walk-in guided tours 2pm - 4pm every Wednesday and Sunday during August and September.

You can also arrange a tour at all other times by phoning 028 9336 9575.

Entry is free!
