Parkinson's Body and Mind Program/YMCA
 
Meet the Instructors and hear about the plans for our exciting exercise and wellness program that is now a non profit 501(c)(3).

The Greenwich, Westport/Weston and the New Canaan YMCAs have big plans for the program this fall. Meet some of the instructors that will be teaching classes including Brenda Waldron Rock Steady boxing certified instructor. Also, a discussion about what you would like to see included to help this be the best exercise and wellness program for you. 
Upcoming Shaker’s Anonymous meetings 

Tuesday August 24th
Dr. Caroline Tanner, MD PhD is recruiting for a new clinical trial led by a team of Parkinson’s experts at UCSF in partnership with researchers from across the country. The goal of the study is to help people with Parkinson’s disease or parkinsonism maintain their independence by reducing the risk of hip fractures. 


There will be no meeting on Tuesday 8/31 

Coming Soon! Shaker's Anonymous live and zoom support group meeting on Tuesday September 21st at 7pm
The Westport Weston Family YMCA is proud to announce we have teamed up with Shakers Anonymous and Rock Steady Boxing to offer an extensive program to support those in our community living with Parkinson’s Disease (PD). Our new Parkinson’s Body and Mind Program (PDB&M) helps participants to improve quality of life with the help of specialty certified instructors. Be a vital member of a positive peer-led support group and enjoy a safe, comprehensive exercise regimen. Classes are open to all persons with PD regardless of mobility level.

Columbia University Department of Neurology’s Division of Movement Disorders, in partnership with Project: Music Heals Us (PMHU) and Manhattan School of Music (MSM), will be offering interactive ZOOM concerts each month to movement disorders patients.
 
Virtual Concerts
PMHU: Wednesday, August 18, 4:00-5:00PM
regular bi-monthly concerts the first Monday (6:30-7:30PM) and Third Wednesday (4-5PM) of each month

The YMCA of Greenwich is a Rock Steady Boxing Affiliate and has created a new boxing studio with padded flooring for safety.  Pat Francois, Interim CEO said, “As a Rock Steady Affiliate and with our new boxing studio, the YMCA is in a great position to support members of the PD community”.
