OVPR Staffing Updates
The Office of the Vice Principal, Research is happy to introduce our new Strategic Research Development Officers, Drs. Jessica Lapp and Ana Pogoutse, starting on September 27th and October 4th, respectively.
These roles will help strengthen the research support to our campus by supporting cross-disciplinary and large scale funding applications, assisting with faculty awards and honours applications, participating in internal partnership development, gathering and tracking research metrics, leading education and outreach activities related to funding opportunities, and engaging in strategic funding projects.
Jessica will focus her efforts on social sciences and humanities. She completed her BA in Media Communications from Carleton University, followed by a MI and a PhD in archival studies from the Faculty of Information at UofT. She subsequently was awarded a SSHRC Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of British Columbia. Prior to her graduate studies she worked in the arts, culture and heritage sector as a grant writer and project manager.
Ana will support the sciences. She completed her BSc and PhD in Biochemistry, both from UofT. She is currently a Research Associate and Grant Writer at the Harvard Medical School. Ana is skilled at writing grant proposals, tracking progress towards research goals, and coordinating with collaborators, with knowledge of both Canadian and US funding mechanisms.
We envision that Jessica and Ana will work collaboratively together and the other OVPR staff, and more broadly, engage with other similar hires that are taking place across all UofT divisions. Once they settle in, they will reach out to the departments.
This session on October 8 at 11 am will explore two data collection tools available at the University of Toronto – REDCap and Microsoft Forms. Specifically, this session will provide a review of the key features of each tool and showcase examples to illustrate the potential utility of these tools for different types of research use cases.
The autoclave and resources facility operates under the Office of Vice-Principal, Research (OVPR) and is open to all research laboratories at UTM.
The facility houses three autoclaves, each found in the Davis Building at UTM.
See the OVPR website for more details related to hours of operation and access.
The Honeywell Remote Monitoring System was established at UTM in 2013 to remotely monitor critical research equipment. Through the Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) station, the integrated web-based user interface of the platform, assigned researchers receive email alarms from monitored targets if an issue arises, and a follow-up alarm email is issued when the status of the equipment returns back to the desired safe-set point.
See the OVPR website for more details and to apply.
