During September, there is an increased risk of asthma symptoms, emergency department visits, and hospitalizations. This increased risk is known as the “September Asthma Peak.” The infamous “Peak Week” is officially noted as September 15 -21. Learn more and be prepared to help students with asthma stay safe and well.

This year, the presence of COVID-19 can make it even harder to know how to best help children with asthma. The Asthma and Allergy Federation of America has updated tables to help determine if a child is most likely experiencing asthma, allergies, COVID-19, or other viruses.

Asthma 411 for School Staff
An Annual Symposium  

Cook Children’s Healthcare System will host a free, professional-development event for those participating in Asthma 411.  One CEU is awarded for participation. Speakers will be Dr. Phllip Scott, Cook Children’s Medical Center, and Dr. Christina Robinson, Medical Director of the Pediatric Mobile Clinic for UNT Health Science Center.  Register here and receive more information about the September 23 event. A recording will also be made available on the Asthma 411 website.

During the 2021 Asthma Awareness Month, Asthma 411 held our first ever, “Healthy Lungs Start with Me” art contest. Check out our third-place winner, and look for more opportunities for students to bring creativity to promote awareness of lung health and asthma.
