In sadness, we share the news that Mrs. Joanne "Betty" Keith Mathis died on Monday, August 23, 2021.

Mrs. Joanne "Betty" Mathis was a layperson who dedicated her life's work to the non-profit community in Arizona and beyond. Mrs. Mathis started her work in Phoenix, AZ in 1993 and quickly became the Executive Director of Wesley Community Center. She engaged in twenty-five years of service to the staff and mission of Wesley Community Center, continuing to improve the lives of the underserved community. Under her leadership, what started out as a small neighborhood community center with adult education and youth sports programs turned into a much larger center with two campuses, federally qualified health centers, and expanded neighborhood revitalization, education, and service programs. Betty retired from Wesley in 2019 and was the recipient of the Bishop's Award in the same year.

Memorial Gifts can be made in Betty's memory and sent to:

We join our hearts together in grief, acknowledging our human loss. May God grant us grace, that in pain we may find comfort; in sorrow, hope; and in death, resurrection. With gratitude for the life and ministry of Mrs. Joanne "Betty" Mathis, please hold her family and friends in prayer at this time.
