Reflections

4 weeks in Madeira was a real treat this summer – if you have not yet visited this stunning island, then I highly recommend it. Lying in the sun, reading lots of books and getting lots of sleep has helped me to revitalise after a busy year. I have also discovered that floating in the infinity pool and looking out to sea is a great thinking space.

Highlights

With the staggered start to the new academic year, I have enjoyed virtually delivering some start of term INSETs at the end of August for schools in Leicester and in Oman. It has been great supporting colleagues as they prepare for the new academic year and revisit their DEI journeys to consolidate their plans moving forwards.

Opportunities

Would you like to join me and a group of women in education on our next overseas adventure?

In August 2020, 24 of us were due to travel to Rwanda with Action Aid for a school building project. Due to Covid-19 and lockdowns, this was deferred to summer 2021 and it will now take place in August 2022. Our numbers have reduced, so we are now looking to grow our team. All the information about the trip (including costs, dates and project details) can be found on the Action Aid website. If you would like to know more about this opportunity, then feel free to get in touch.

Think

I appreciated attending a session for EDI leaders hosted by Shonagh Reid, as it is always refreshing to be a learner instead of the facilitator, and the group who attended were all about to start new whole school roles.

Following the session with Shonagh I wrote my blog for the #MonthlyWritingChallenge. This month’s theme is Awareness and I share my provocation about why schools need to remunerate a DEI leader.
