What was cookin' in August?

We were busy saving animals again.

WE HAVE A NEW WEBSITE!

Have you checked it out yet?

Lots of updated information to share with you at www.habershamhumane.org.
Find our Foster Application, our Membership Application and steps to take if you have lost (or found) a pet.
It's all there!

OUR AUGUST TRANSPORTS

Yep, we were at it again this month on August 4th and August 18th ... working with Road Trip Home to transport dogs and cats to furever homes in the Northeast.  This is our most rewarding HHS project because it involves exceptional volunteers who truly desire to make a difference in the lives of these animals.  Our foster animals end up well socialized because of the love and attention they have received.  If you have a heart for animals, this is a great way to use it.  Contact HHS at info@habershamhumane.org to get a call from our Foster/Transport Coordinator.  OR...you can go to our website at www.habershamhumane.org and print out a copy of our Foster Application.  If you've got the love, we've got the animals!  WIN-WIN!!

Thanks to this superb team!  You guys make it happen.
TREAT TIME!

Yum!  Let's look at another healthy treat for the household pups.  This one uses ingredients that you already have around the kitchen.  It's full of nutrition ... if given in moderation, of course!

PUMPKIN-PEANUT BUTTER TREATS

INGREDIENTS

  2½ cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened pumpkin puree
  • 1/4 cup creamy peanut butter (I like to use natural... no sugar or xylitol)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silpat mats.
  • Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and stir until combined. The mixture will be somewhat dry, but it will come together when you roll it out.
  • Move the dough to a floured mat and use your hands to mix the dough some more so it is well combined. Roll out the dough. Cut into shapes (dog bone, round or whatever shape you want), and transfer the cut-out biscuits to the baking sheets.
  • Bake for 30 minutes. You can bake both sheets at the same time. Just put them on two different racks. The baked biscuits will be crisp, but not rock hard. Some might puff up a bit and some will stay flat.
  • Biscuits will be fine in a covered container for up to one week. If you want to freeze them, you may throw them in a freezer zip baggie and take them out to defrost as you wish.

AUGUST HAPPY TALES!
It's so encouraging when our adoptive families share their stories.  We love hearing how our Habersham foster pets have adjusted to their new homes in Maine.  Here are a few stories that we received in August ...

As always, we are grateful for your consistent and generous support of our work at HHS.  To make a donation, please send to  Habersham Humane Society
