Working Together Towards A More Sustainable Future

CSDILA is very pleased to be collaborating with the International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) to bring together this conference of leading-edge presentations and information sessions. Professionals in the field of mapping and geospatial sciences will hear the latest research and breakthroughs and be able to network with other leading thinkers in this space.

Dr Behnam Atazadeh receives ARC DECRA Fellow Funding

This week it was announced that CSDILA team member Dr Behnam Atazadeh has been awarded an ARC DECRA fellow to develop a novel 3D digital approach to managing underground ownership spaces. This will be achieved by referencing these spaces to the physical reality of the underground environment.

This project expects to generate new knowledge in the area of underground land administration using new 3D data modelling techniques. Expected outcomes of this project include a new underground 3D data model to improve management and communication of physical location and ownership extent of Australia’s underground assets.

Incorporating SDGs into Curriculum

On 20th August Professor Rajabifard presented an online seminar on applying the UN Sustainability Goals (SDGs) in the Curriculum. This seminar was hosted by the FEIT Teaching and Learning Laboratory at The University of Melbourne.

This talk discussed sustainability, the global status, and efforts on SDGs, and showcased FEIT's approach to adopting SDGs as a tool to measure and map how UoM subjects are linked with sustainability. Prof Rajabifard also demonstrated a Digital Twin platform with different visualisation options, such as AI/VR used to visualise and communicate results.

Student Spotlight

Our students are integral members of the CSDILA team, and to showcase their work each week we are featuring the work of one of our students on the CSDILA News page and our LinkedIn. Below are the students featured this month.

Ali Asghari
As a Geospatial engineer and researcher, Ali has been involved in several infrastructure development projects and actively researching geospatial issues. He has a background in Geomatics Engineering and has published several articles in geospatial domains such as 3D cadastre, 3D modelling and data validation, spatial analysis, and land-use change modelling using machine learning approaches. Read his full profile here.
Maryam Barzegar
Maryam's research is about spatial query and analysis for 3D urban land administration. She has developed a 3D spatial database for storing IFC data based on the analysis requirements of urban land administration stakeholders. She has also developed new methodologies for performing spatial analysis using BIM and IFC data. Read her full profile here.
Atie Asadikia
Atie's research is about developing a systematic and holistic prioritisation tool to identify synergetic Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at different scales (global, country-level, and national). This research applies ensemble machine learning and data mining techniques to identify co-beneficial SDGs.

Our Capabilities & Services

CSDILA offers support, research and development services with a focus on the following areas. We welcome any interests in collaboration and partnership - our contact is listed at the end of this email, or you can reply directly.

CSDILA's Hackathon Event

“How can we leverage emerging technologies such as AI, IoT, and Digital Twin to reduce the impacts of disaster, and to improve our approaches in mitigation, response and recovery, and to strengthen our community resilience?”

This is the question that the CSDILA Team asked participants to address in the 2021 CSDILA Hackathon event. This event was a two-week sprint, with a welcoming session held online on the first day, 16th August, and the final presentation hosted online on the 28th.
The CSDILA Team received 12 registrations, with two teams making it through to the final round:

  • Youjin’s Team: A group of three PhD students from the Department of Infrastructure Engineering – Youjin Choe, Saroj Kumar Sharma, Marko Radanovic;
  • Team Konjac: A group of three Master students from the Master of Information Technology – Yuxuan Sun, Kaixun Yang, Supei Li.
A panel of seven judges from CSDILA are now reviewing all the submitted work, with the results to be announced later in September.

Prof. Rajabifard presents keynote at Argentina's national SDI conference

On 31st August Professor Rajabifard presented the keynote address at Argentina's National SDI Conference 2021. The address was given online, with translators assisting to answer participant's questions about SDIs and Prof Rajabifard's work in CSDILA.

CSDILA is located on the traditional lands of the Wurundjeri people.
We pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
