Climate action plan:
training/support for community groups

What is net zero carbon and what does it mean for us? Sustainable St Albans has developed a programme to support organisations to take climate action in your activities. Through two training workshops and on-hand support between, Sustainable St Albans can help you understand your organisation's role in the community effort to tackle climate change, make meaningful commitments and develop your own action plan. See more here.
  • Session 1: Thursday 7 October 10 am - 4 pm.
  • Session 2: Thursday 3 March 10 am - 4 pm.
Sesson 1 is a practical training day for your organisation to create a ‘net zero carbon’ plan, and learn about the Council’s plans. In Session 2 you will share your draft net zero carbon plan and get input and feedback from your peers.

Code red for humanity” from the IPCC report

You will have heard in the news recently the stark findings of the recent IPCC report and the UN Secretary General describing it as “code red for humanity”. The overall conclusion is that, to limit global warming, strong, rapid, and sustained reductions in CO2, methane, and other greenhouse gases are necessary. This would not only reduce the consequences of climate change but also improve air quality.

All of Sustainable St Albans’ work is in the context of the climate and ecological crises we face. Action is required internationally, nationally, by governments, global partnerships, and companies; by local councils, communities, and individuals; Sustainable St Albans acts at these last three levels.

Wilder St Albans - Wilder Spaces:
Nominate your local space

Our local wildlife needs more space to thrive. Many of our smaller green patches could be home to a rich diversity of wildflowers, providing vital food for insects and birds, and creating a network of habitat from the smallest to the largest of our wildlife. Every patch makes a difference.

Through Wilder St Albans, St Albans City and District Council are inviting you to nominate your local patch to be Wilder in 2022! Suggestions can include ‘greens’ in cul-de-sacs, verges, footpaths and some areas in our local green spaces.

Find out more here and scroll down to see a map of nominated Wilder Spaces. You can click on the map to comment on a nomination.
