News from Danawa Garden

Despite the winter weather, we have been busy in the Danawa Garden, pruning our fruit trees, cutting down some older trees (with the grateful help of the Shire workers team) and also mending our greenhouse ready for many Spring seedlings (with the generous help of Sproutwell Greenhouses in Geelong). We also worked a shift at the wonderful Anglesea Tip Shop, which assists with our fundraising target for the year.

News from U3A
Term three has already been a  series of sudden lockdowns and unexpected cancellations  of courses, even though U3A SurfCoast had put together a term three program of twenty-seven classes and activities, the most ambitious program in its seven year history.
Many of our face-to-face classes have now had to transfer to Zoom delivery because in a world made uncertain by COVID-19, U3A sees social connection as crucial especially for the sixty-five plus demographic.

A highlight of the term three program will be a series of three lectures on the Geelong Football Club from Col Hutchinson, Geelong Cats Life Member and specialist in AFL Statistics and a football historian. He is the author of several books including Cats’ tales: the Geelong Football Club, 1897–1983. The original starting date has now been postponed.

At the other end of the scale Counsellor Louise Day (from Dementia Australia) will present a session on Understanding Dementia, an introduction to the different types of dementia, diagnosis, planning ahead and how to support someone living with dementia.

The session is suitable for people living with dementia, their family carers, family members, and people who are concerned they or someone they know may have dementia. It is estimated that there are currently around 472,000 Australians living with dementia.  This session is scheduled for September 10th.

Because of the fluid situation under Covid restrictions please check our website for updated information and enrollment at: Courses & Activities – U3A SurfCoast  or 0435 374 139 email: info@u3asurfcoast.org.au
