The impacts of this pandemic reach far beyond the virus itself. As a result of the stress and anxiety of the COVID-19 era, Oklahomans are experiencing mental health and addiction challenges at record or near-record levels.
Eighteen months after the first COVID case appeared in Oklahoma, we examine the pandemic’s massive impacts on behavioral health conditions, including increasing suicide and overdose deaths, and offer recommendations to mitigate these effects as local and state policymakers move to combat the pandemic’s overall impacts.
