Towards the XXI IACML: How is a virtual Labor Ministerial like?

The XXI Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor is around the corner! It will take place from September 22 -24th, and, for the first time in its history, virtually. Thus, we take the opportunity to share some of the key aspects on how will IACML look this year:

-The meetings of the consultative bodies that gather works and employers (COSATE and CEATAL) will take place on September 22nd through the ZOOM platform, while the plenary sessions to be undertaken on September 23-24th will take place through KUDO, a more appropriate platform for this type of meetings given interpretation and security features.

-Access will be granted only to accredited delegates. For Member States, this process must be done through the Permanent Mission of their countries to the OAS. The information bulletin with registration form will be sent to all delegations shortly.

-Due to virtual room capacity, Member States, COSATE and CEATAL will only be able to register 8 delegates with the ability to take the floor. It is expected to have the Conference shared through webcast to reach a broader audience.

-Plenary sessions will have some introductory presentations from Ministers and then open spaces for dialogue. (Please see the details and times of the sessions in the Proposed work Schedule).

-All information is being permanently updated in the XXI IACML website.

Towards the elimination of child labor in the region: Technical cooperation within RIAL/OAS and ILO

The bilateral cooperation activities selected within the RIAL/OAS for this year continue to advance. The last two weeks, there has been special progress in those targeting efforts towards the elimination of child labor, which are taking place in coordination with the Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labor Initiative of the ILO. The Ministry of Labor of Argentina developed the first of three sessions of technical assistance to the Ministry of Labor of Panama on the Network of Businesses against Child Labor; while Guatemala met for the second time with  Panama to receive technical support on strategies to eradicate child labor in the sugar-cane sector Click here to see the details of the cooperation activities.
