Career Development / Hiring Events & Opportunities:

  • Looking for a job or work-study position on-campus at PVCC?  Mark your calendar for this Thursday's (September 2, 12-2pm, Bolick Student Center) Work-on-Campus Job & Resource Fair where you can also learn about some of the student support resources available at PVCC.  Panther Cafe and UVA Community Credit Union will be recruiting for non-work-study jobs.  The following PVCC departments are recruiting for work-study helpers:  Academic Support, Culinary Arts, Dickenson Theater, Disability Services, Electronics Lab, Facilities, Fitness Center and Student Success. Check out College Central Network for work-study job descriptions.  Talk with Financial Aid to see if you qualify for a work-study position.  PVCC pays $15/hour!
  • Both Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia *and* Qualified Staffing are hosting recruiting tables at PVCC in the Bolick Student Center on Tuesday, August 31, 12-2.  Stop by and talk with them about their opportunities. Between the two of them, they have job opportunities in lots of different categories - both full-time and part-time:  fun working with kids, administrative, hands-on and more!
  • Do you love working with kids and want to make a positive impact in their lives? The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central VA want to talk with you at any of their hiring events on Wednesdays, 11am-1pm  through September. They pay $15/hour and the work hours are Monday-Friday, 2:30-6:30pm. They have part-time Youth Development Staff openings in Charlottesville, Scottsville, Orange, and Madison.  Or apply online!
  • Virginia Career Work's Employers of the Week on Thursday, September 2, 1-3pm are Fair Winds, Gaston & Wyatt, and Anthology Senior LivingRegister in advance for zoom link.  If you'd like to prepare better, take advantage of VCW's Job Seeker Workshop on Tuesday, 8/31, 2pm. 
  • Grow with Google is offering a number of virtual career development workshops. This week's event (on Tuesday, 8/31, 1pm) is on Explore UX Design Skills & Careers
  • Federal unemployment benefits end on September 4.  Don't wait until that time to start applying to jobs which will put you in a much larger pool of candidates!  But mark your calendar for both Virginia Career Works Outdoor Job Fair next Tuesday, September 7, 1-3pm at Friendship Court Apartments *and* PVCC's Fall Job Fair on Wednesday, October 6, 1-4pm.  PVCC's employer participant list will be available starting September 1.  We already have 30+ employers who want to talk with you! You can view VCW's employers' list on PVCC's recruiting calendar of events.
  • There are five companies in Charlottesville that made the Inc. 5000 2021 Fastest Growing Private Companies in America, even amid the pandemic: SHINE Management ranked 279, Sigora Solar ranked 861, Anchor Health Properties ranked 1,934, K2 Dental Arts ranked 2,219 and Willow Tree ranked 2,486.   • Virginia Career Works seeks a part-time (20 hours/week) Work Readiness Specialist that pays $20.20/hour.
  • Attention nursing students - a private family is paying $1000 monthly providing personal care to a 51 y.o. CP male on alternating weekends.
  • Piedmont YMCA seeks part-time Membership Representatives paying $12/hour. They also posted for FT or PT Lead Early Learning Teachers paying $13-16/hour, a FT Preschool Kitchen Manager / Classroom Floater paying $12-16/hour and PT Lifeguards. Check them all out on CCN.
  • A private family seeks an after school child care provider paying $15-20/hour (with a $20 gas stipend).  Must have your own transportation plus be interested in preparing some food.
  • CBI Forest School is hiring after-school staff who love mostly working outdoors.  They pay $18/hour; the program runs from 3:00 -5:00 PM Monday-Friday. Send your resume to Clara Crider at clara@cbicville.org
  • Commonwise seeks PVCC students to be Ambassadors! They pay $20/hour for all “training” hours (no more than 8 hours). You would then get $100 for every referred applicant that applies, regardless of whether the applicant is hired OR $250 for every referred applicant that is hired. They also posted for CNAs, PCAs and Caregivers paying $15-19/hour on CCN.
  • UVA Encompass has multiple openings for Therapy Techs for PRN shifts (work when needed; at least two required every month) that pay $15/hour. Extensive training provided so they want students for at least a year (two would be better). A recent PVCC RN graduate raved about his experience with them.   • UVA seeks Security Officers paying $35,000. They also posted a Police Services Operator position that pays $31,200. The Police Services operator answers non-emergency calls for assistance. Check them both out on CCN.
  • Albemarle-Charlottesville Regional Jail seeks Jail Officers paying $36,795+. They also seek full-time and part-time LPNs paying $40-60,000. Check them both out on College Central Network.
  • My Dance Shoppe (on the DT mall) is hiring a weekend Retail Sales Associate starting at $10/hr. Some dance experience, even if it's just a little, is preferred. To apply, email cville@mydanceshoppe.com
  • Charlottesville Parks & Rec is still hiring! They have a number of openings including Customer Service Attendants for either City Market, Aquatics, Carver, Key, Adaptive or Athletics ($15-16.50/hour), Golf Clubhouse Attendant ($16.33/hour), Aquatics Fitness Exercise /Group Exercise Instructors ($19.55 - $34.22 Hourly), Coaches ($15-22.10/hour), Day Camp Counselor ($16-16.50/hour), Lifeguard ($15/hour), Skatepark Maintenance Worker ($15/hour), and Sports Officials ($25/game).
  • Dogwood Village of Orange seeks CNAs, LPNs and a RN. Check them all out on CCN (or visit their website - which mentions a weekend shift differential of $5/hour, an on-site child care center for staff children and double time holiday pay). They also offer free meals and a gym discount at Anytime Fitness.
Do you like doing accounting, administrative, or creative work? Do you like computers or doing other technical kinds of work? Do you like cooking, skilled trades, hands-on, or outdoor/physical kinds of work?
  • Qualified Staffing has a Production Associate position that works 2-10pm that pays $15/hour.  Talk with them in PVCC's Student Center, tomorrow, 8/31, 12-2pm.  
  • Yay Lunch is seeking part-time Delivery Drivers!  They're looking for someone that is available between 9:30am - 12:30pm. Your role is to drop off school lunches, just one or two routes and you're done for the day! The pay is hourly at $17.50 + IRS mileage.
  • Food & Beverage group is hiring both FOH and BOH positions paying $12-16/hour.  Their restaurants include Fry Springs Station, Ivy Provisions, Shadwell's and Augusta Kitchen.
  • Tonic is seeking both Kitchen and Front-of-House help. The Line and Prep Cooks make up to $24/hour! Check them both out on CCN
  • AltEnergy seeks Solar System Installers (prior experience not required) for both Charlottesville and Staunton *and* a Solar Sales Assistant.
  • Mosquito Authority seeks a temporary Mosquito Control Specialist for a 3-month assignment.
