LinkedIn Headline Formula

There are many teachers, staff, students and parents who are not quite sure how to complete their LinkedIn Profile and more specifically, their LinkedIn Headline. This is the area directly underneath your name on your LinkedIn Profile. It helps viewers, in one glance, understand a little bit more about you. For Sue Ellson's recommended LinkedIn Headline Formula, please visit https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/linkedin-headline-formula-label-keywords-interest-sue-ellson

Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Census
Census 2021 and when should you do a Demographic Analysis?

Schools often ask us, 'When’s the best time to do a Demographic Analysis? Is it immediately after the Census when the data is available, or some other time in the five year Census cycle?'

There are three trigger points when data comes out in the five year Census cycle. The data from the Census is shared in a staggered way by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) due to its complexity.

The relevant points in the five year Census cycle in our view are:

•    Census Night – this year it was 10 August 2021 (and the next one is planned for August 2026).

•    Census data: Release 1 –  smaller levels needed for area analysis to be released from June 2022

This includes population and age as of Census night, and how many children go to the various school types per small area; Males / Female, Pre-school / Primary / Secondary, Government / Catholic / Independent school.

•    Socio Economic Index for Areas (SEIFA) data – to be released Mid 2023

•    Population Forecast Data – to be advised. We currently have the 2017 – 2032 projection data which was released in October 2019. We expect the ABS will update this dataset around October 2024.

Officially called “Customised projections prepared for the Australian Government Department of Health by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (2017-2032)”.

Please visit https://www.abs.gov.au/census/2021-data-releases for further information.

In our view, the data that schools are most interested in is the Population Forecast 2017 – 2032 at small area levels (SA2) by gender and age group to undertake future enrolments analysis. The 2017 – 2032 is currently the freshest data the ABS have released for the three major inputs. We expect the next version of this data from the ABS will be released around October 2024.

The answer to the original question, when is the best time for a demographic analysis, the answer is, anytime that suits you and your school, college or university. No matter when you wish to go ahead, some of the data will be fresh, and some will be getting a bit older – but there is nothing you can do about that. Informed decisions need to be made on a regular basis. At Spectrum Analysis, we automatically update this information for our existing clients.

We have an updated schools brochure and sample report outlining how Spectrum Analysis can help your school, college or university anywhere in Australia with facts and data that you can use to make informed enrolment, marketing, alumni and community development decisions at https://spectrumanalysis.com.au/services/education-analysis

AHISA Article Data Based Decision Making
Data Based Decision Making – Not just a wet finger in the air

In 2019, Peter Buckingham prepared an article for the Association of Heads of Independent Schools of Australia AHISA Independence Journal and the information is just as relevant today.

EduTECH International Congress and Expo Logo
EduTECH Conference

For those of you who attended the EduTECH Conference last week, you will be well aware that technology is becoming a fixture in the world of education. If you were unable to attend, you can gain on demand access to all sessions until 17 September 2021. Sue was very impressed with a panel session that talked about what schools had learned since early 2020 and it was very pleasing to hear that the relationship between teachers and parents has improved overall and that the level of respect for teachers and the work they do has increased. Well done to everyone who has adapted to so much new technology and methodology in the recent past.
