Summer 2021
Investing in the Lives of Those Impacted by Incarceration
In Summer 2021, Kindway Welcomes Home:

Heidi, Tina, and DeAndre
We thank God for all your prayers and support for their successful transition.
Announcements
There is so much going on. Summer has been filled with much activity and many gatherings. EMBARK is in full swing in three prisons and we've had amazing food and fellowship at our 10th year anniversary reunion and at Leave A Mark Church for an awesome cookout. We have so much to celebrate, so strap in and enjoy the ride.
EMBARK Seasons 10 and 1 Begin
Kindway EMBARK seasons resume at two Ohio prisons and we launch our first season at a third site.

EMBARK will begin Season 10 at the Ohio Reformatory for Women (ORW) and at Marion Correctional Institution (MCI) in August. We are thrilled to be back in prison offering our flagship programming. We are most excited that we have expanded in to a third prison and are launching Season 1 at the Pickaway Correctional Institution (PCI). We thank God for equipping us to expand so that we may offer our services to more people in transition.
The Joseph Group Marion Trips Resume
The Joseph Group bus trips return to MCI on Tuesday, November 16. The Joseph Group bus trip has introduced many to the reality of the lives of the men and women of Kindway behind the razor wire. From their investment into these visits to prison, the Joseph Group has connected Kindway with many passionate volunteers and supporters over the years and we are glad to announce that the doors at MCI have opened once again to The Joseph Group. We are certain the Lord has a blessing in store for all in attendance.

MCI Parole Navigator Project
The Ohio Parole Board has asked Kindway to pilot the Parole Board Navigator project at MCI that will eventually roll out statewide. Trained Kindway volunteers accompany men to their parole board hearings in order to help offenders debrief after what is for many a very stressful experience.

Those scheduled for parole hearings may opt for having one of our volunteers sit with them during the hearing and recount what was said so that the offender would leave with a better understanding. We are thankful to experience the compassion of our volunteers who have signed up to extend the ministry of presence with those having parole hearings.

Reunions
Leave A Mark Summer Reunion Picnic
Our church partner Leave A Mark Church hosted our  most recent EMBARK Reunion with a summer cookout on August 21. The staff and volunteers were amazing hosts. They provided hot dogs, brats, sno-cones, cotton candy, a bountiful table of desserts, and other refreshments. Guests brought amazing side dishes to make this pot-luck picnic a huge success. We thank God for our partner Leave A Mark for their continued support of Kindway and of the Fresh Start program that clothes every woman leaving ORW with an outfit for their release. What an amazing ministry to restore someone’s dignity. May the Lord continue to bless Pastor Steve, Ginger, and the entire Leave A Mark Family.
Kindway Reunions Return to Bethel International United Methodist Church
How exciting! Bethel Int. UMC will host Kindway reunions for the rest of 2021. Pastor Glenn and Bethel IUMC have been long time partners with Kindway and we are thrilled to be returning there. Join us at 1220 Bethel Rd, Columbus Ohio 43220 at 6pm on October 20 for our Volunteer Appreciation Reunion and on December 15 for a Christmas Party reunion. Come and experience a great time in the Lord.

Kindway reunions are events designed to give Kindway alumni, volunteers, staff, and those who love them a space where they may reunite with others in the Kindway family.
Women's Welcome Home
Welcome Home for Kindway women continues. The Welcome Home women gathered at Maple Grove UMC on June 7 and August 2nd. The Welcome Home annual picnic will be held at Whetstone Park on Saturday, September 11th from 4:30-7:30pm. Please bring a side dish and lawn chair. Meat, drinks and paper goods will be provided.

Volunteer Opportunities

Would you like to be a Kindware Volunteer?
Since COVID restrictions have been relaxed, Kindware fundraising events have been scheduled through the remainder of 2021. Kindway has been invited to offer the Kindware jewlery handcrafted by our men and women at ORW and MCI.

The events are a great opportunity to support the Kindway mission by helping those who support us through Kindware donations pick out those perfect pieces of jewlery and share the Kindway story. If you are able to volunteer, please contact
debbie.southwick@kindway.org. You can support Kindway by doing your Christmas shopping at the following events. Bring a friend or two.

Kindway is looking for landlords
Are you, or is someone you know, a landlord praying for responsible and employed tenants? Well, your prayers have been answered. Kindway alumni have a track record of fulfilling their lease agreements and moving on in good standing with their renters.

Our housing partners speak highly of our alumni and one says our participants are his best tenants. Why not consider giving Kindway alumni a second chance at life? For more information, please contact Stan Stever at

Well, it’s that time again. Cards From Christ is beginning their Christmas Card drive now in order to deliver a Christmas Card to every prisoner in Ohio. Last year, your efforts succeeded in doing just that, but not only that… your commitment to Cards from Christ reached every prisoner and staff member in Ohio, a couple of youth facilities in Ohio, every prisoner in Nebraska state prisons, and a few prisons in Texas and Indiana! WHAT?! Yup. You read that correctly.

Our Goal:
Cards From Christ is collecting 100,000 Christmas cards! We want to provide a Christmas card for ALL incarcerated men, women and juveniles in Ohio prisons.

The rules are simple:
Absolutely DO NOT: Include envelopes, send cards ONLY, DO NOT use cards with trifolds, pockets, pop-ups or glitter, enclose pictures, trinkets, keepsakes or gifts, DO NOT use your full name, address, or phone number

Absolutely DO: Write encouraging messages, use ONLY blue or black ink, share Jesus, include scripture, be kind, be the Church, sign the card with your first name, your friend or your brother/sister in Christ, bundle cards in packs of 25.

Not all recipients are Christians but all will respond to your thoughtfulness. THE most important thing, PRAY! Pray that each card goes to the one who needs it the most, even if that person feels they need it the least. Email Kent Money at bballfanatic327@hotmail.com for pick up/drop off information or any questions.
You may mail the cards to:
