CCIE DUES FOR 2021 - 2022
CCIE wants to remind all our members that, now, more than ever, it is important to pay your dues.  CCIE dues are collected on the academic year - July 1 - June 30.  It is critical that every member be current with their dues in order for CCIE to continue to support activities such as the Newsletter, Web-Page listing and Institutional Grants, Faculty Grant, and Student Scholarships.  CCIE does appreciate the effort that all of you are doing to help support international education at our colleges.  However, advocacy needs to continue on many levels, and support of CCIE is central in this process. CCIE's ability to offer student scholarships and institutional grants depends on all colleges paying their dues.

Make an Impact #GivingTuesday
2020 and 2021 have been a unique and challenging years for California Community Colleges and the field of International Education. Yet, I see promise for the future as our colleges are re-imaging the promotion and support of international education.  #GivingTuesday 2021, your donation goes directly to support CCIE projects, such as the institutional grants and student scholarship programs.
Thank you in advance for supporting this campaign. Your generosity is deeply appreciated!
Should you wish to make a contribution, you may send a gift to California Colleges for International Education (CCIE)

ASIA SOCIETY INTERNATIONALIZING CURRICULUM PROGRAM
The Center for Global Education at Asia Society (CGE) is a national non-profit organization that prepares students for work in the global economy. CGE has received funding to assist community college CTE faculty and adjunct faculty with internationalizing their curriculum. This new project will create, pilot, evaluate, and disseminate free online and in-person professional development resources and accompanying tools. It will also create in-person professional development workshops as well as modules and content for students. The Center for Global Education is seeking interested CTE faculty (full-time and adjunct) who would like to be involved in the project through any of the following ways:
During the last week of October, CGE will virtually convene groups of CTE faculty interested in giving input into draft outlines for the online professional development modules and the student modules. If interested, you would need to review materials in advance and participate in a 60 - 90 minute long virtual roundtable discussion. (About a 2.5 hour time commitment total). Faculty from any of the CTE pathways are welcome to participate, but CGE is especially seeking representation from Architecture, Construction, Education, Health, Human Services, IT, Corrections, and Manufacturing. See all 16 pathways here: https://asiasociety.org/education/cte-career-pathways
Pilot participants: Finally, CGE is looking for faculty interested in being part of the pilot process to review the professional development modules  or piloting the student module.
If you are interested, please contact Heather Singmaster, Director of CTE at the Center for Global Education at hsingmaster@asiasociety.org

ISA Ireland - Curricular Module
Hello from Ireland, I hope your summer has been restorative – we’ve had an atypical summer here – the Irish summer weather has been totally predictable in its unpredictability – but the absence of visitors here is so strange. Irish people themselves are all ‘staycationing’, so we have Dublin people going to Galway and Galway people going to Kerry, and Kerry people coming to Donegal, etc – which is quite hilarious, because we are such a small country, everyone knows everyone, or at least someone you know, (especially teachers!) - we can’t really behave badly, when you’re guaranteed to have a neighbour reporting back…. no tequila! but it could be a lot worse, and we’re grateful, after 15 months of lockdown, to be able to go anywhere! But we have very very few tourists from overseas, and no gap year and international students (who are always very much part of our service businesses) and we are all longing to get back to some kind of normal.
I thought you might be interested in the vaccination rates here- they are over 70% and rising here in Ireland, there has been incredible participation in the vaccine roll-out, which thankfully means our students will return to campus in September; well, hopefully! Delta is here, but because so many people are vaccinated, the hospitalization rates are so much lower than pre-vaccine. Unfortunately, it is still complicated for students to travel here- the U.S. is still not letting us go to you, and they’ve a warning against travel to Ireland (which seems odd, considering the vaccination levels) but we sincerely hope this will change soon, and we can get our study trips back on track!
Anyway – just in case you’re heading back to college to teach but concerned about what the absence of travel possibilities is creating education-wise, can I remind you that we have spent the year creating an online course with the specific purpose of replicating similar outcomes to that of a study trip. We created the ‘Global Perspectives’ course over six months, in consultation with our colleagues in education in the USA. We researched the pedagogy of achieving learning outcomes in cultural competency and professional development through virtual learning, and we made a whole 15-class course, which is now online and yours for the asking. Evaluation and assessment are built in, and it’s been run and reviewed now by several colleges and universities, and we invite you to take a look at it.
I have opened up this course at no cost, so that any CCIE faculty member reading this letter can get into the entire course and see if it would work for you. To do this, please do the following.
Click this link https://interculturalireland.com/p/faculty
Scroll down through the page, which fully explains how the course works. You will see a syllabus, including video-classes, reading lists and assignments. Beneath the syllabus, you will see a blue button that says enroll now. Ignore the money/cost stuff, and just click the enroll now button. A window will pop up, saying ‘enter coupon code’. Type in IAMFACULTY and hit ‘Apply’. All money stuff will disappear, and you can just log in. This will allow you watch the videos, read the assignments and reading lists – you can check out everything.
How can you use this course? Well, some of our colleges have used it for full time students as a cultural competency course, or a professional development course. Some have used it in place of whatever they were doing for study abroad. Some community colleges have offered it as a personal enrichment / continuing ed course. Some have incorporated into world history / global studies/ and so on/
We have had many zooms with faculty to discuss this, so if you want to do this, just get in touch.
So, what is the cost of this course?
Here’s the good news. We made this to be affordable and accessible. We are currently asking colleges and universities for $50 per student- the cost of a textbook – to access the full course, including evaluation and assessment.
Every good wish all the way from Donegal,
Stay safe,
Niamh and John.

CAPSTONE VIEWNAM
Warm summer greetings from Viet Nam! I'm pleased to remind you about our fall StudyGlobal Higher Education Flex-Fairs from October 2-9, 2021 in Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, Nha Trang, and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).  This fair series is open to approved and accredited institutions from any country that wish to enroll (more) Vietnamese students. We have expanded the geographical focus of the fairs to give students and parents more choices.
Regarding participation options, we’ll continue to err on the side of caution at this point and assume that colleagues will not be able to travel to Viet Nam this fall to represent their institutions in person. If that changes, registered participants will be the first to know.

1) Virtual: We use a two-pronged approach. There’s one student volunteer at the fair who greets visitors, distributes your promotional information (or a QR code), scans them into our CRM system, and introduces them to another student sitting in either our Hanoi or HCMC office and you.  You have the chance to interact with your volunteers via email and video chat before the fairs.

2) In country representative: Someone you appoint, e.g., in country staff, alumni, parents, to represent your institution.

3) Literature only: A carefully selected student volunteer is prepared to answer basic questions about your institutions, distributes promotional information (or a QR code), and collects contact information. As with the virtual option, you have the opportunity to train your volunteer before the fairs via email and video chat.

In the meantime, we encourage you to visit our Recruit in Viet Nam website. A sound institutional recruitment strategy should include a variety of tools and techniques, in addition to cooperation with quality and ethical agents. This website focuses exclusively on the former. Capstone also acts as an education agent but with a unique and ethical educational advising approach. Follow this link to learn more.

FEDERAL WEBSITE TO SUPPORT LANGUAGE LEARNING
A new website was launched (https://bit.ly/3k6FlZ2) to help support the identification of federally funded language programs, Languages.State.Gov.  Included are language programs for individuals and opportunities for U.S. institutions to host a language instructor from overseas and an interactive quiz to help individuals and institutions find a U.S. government language training or study abroad program.

CCIE and COLLEGE CONSORTIUM FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (CCIS) CIS COLLABORATIVE AGREEMENT
CCIE and CCIS have a collaborative agreement for shared membership. CCIE member colleges who are current with their dues can participate in CCIS programs.  CCIS members can inform their students about CCIE program that are listed on the CCIE web-site.

The College Consortium for International Studies (CCIS) is a non-profit international education organization located in Washington, DC that facilitates a network of U.S and international colleges and universities dedicated to creating access and opportunity in education abroad. CCIS is a partnership of colleges and universities - two and four year, large and small, public and private, domestic and foreign - encompasses the broad spectrum of international higher education. CCIS was founded over 30 years ago on the values and commitment that all students should have access to and opportunity in education abroad, regardless of background, major, or socio-economic status. CCIS programs are typically 30% less than provider-based programs given the consortium model.
CCIS offers over 100 summer, semeser, intensive language, internship and service programs in 27 countries.  Programs are developed by educators and administered by accredited U.S.institutions. Programs are assessed for academic excellence and overall quality through a review by the CCIS Academic Programs Committee. CCIS also offers  scholarship opportunities for their programs. CCIS sponsors an agreement process that makes it easier to transfer financial aid and academic credits from a U.S accredited institution, offers an education abroad toolkit and customized print materials to highlight specific programs of interest.  CCIS also offers trainings, workshops, and webinars and an annual conference.

As a result of this new partnership, CCIE member institutions are eligible to join CCIS at a discounted affiliate membership rate of $ 300 (as opposed to the regular rate of $ 1,200).

FPP EDU Media
FPP EDU Media is a family owned company from Brazil which was founded 20 years ago in Sao Paulo.  Our organization specializes in assisting education providers with recruiting international students from around the world through our tours, expos, virtual fairs and digital solutions.  This year we have been invited to serve as a sponsor for California Colleges for International Education (CCIE). Through several conversations with Rosalind and members of this consortium, we learned that we may be able to leverage our resources to help your member schools further expand and diversify their international student enrollments. FPP has been hosting High School Tours in Brazil focused solely on Community Colleges.  These target high school graduates who are mostly likely to be interested attending community colleges.  Our leadership team at FPP has come up with some creative solutions to serve the community college during this pandemic.  We are offering virtual recruitment events and even a virtual transfer fair platform.  We know that each fall community colleges host dozens of universities on their campuses for in person transfer fairs.  We happen to have a virtual platform which community colleges could use for free.  This will allow them to host universities and students virtually taking the planning and expense out of the equation.
