Dear Members and Friends of Your Shul by the Sea:
Your Board says:
Dear friends,
Welcome to the High Holidays for 2021.
We have so much to tell you. Please read this carefully and follow all instructions.
Based on the NYC policy for restaurants and other gathering places, we are going to ask that all who attend Face to Face Services at Morris YC be vaccinated and wear a mask while indoors. Morris has plenty of room for us to spread out, and to go outside for breaks. We will plan accordingly. We will keep the doors open for fresh air as much as possible Bring a sweater.
TO REGISTER FOR FACE TO FACE SERVICES please click here and answer all questions. Please send a copy of your proof of vaccination to yourshulbythesea@gmail.com.
Our machzor, the special prayer book for the High Holidays, will be almost exactly the same as last year. If you have yours, bring it along. For those staying home on Zoom, and for those at Morris YC, the machzor will also be shown on screen.
IF YOU WISH TO SPONSOR PRINTING of the machzor, it is in this same form, scroll down. Tomorrow, Tuesday August 24, is the last day to sponsor the machzor; it must go to the printer.
We also have a strong tradition of honoring our friends and family of blessed memory in our Yizkor Book of Remembrance. We ask for a donation of $18 for each name.
IF YOU WISH TO PUT NAMES IN THE YIZKOR BOOK, it is in this same form, scroll down. The absolute last day for this is Wednesday, Sept 1. At that point, it must go to the printer.
All services will be availabe on Zoom, and some are ONLY on Zoom. Please see the schedule at the very end of this email. In order to attend via Zoom, we are collecting your name and email address. You will receive an email link that will work throughout the High Holidays. In this way we hope to discourage any security breaches. It will work quite smoothly if you remember to use the special link.
REGISTER FOR ZOOM and get the special link here. Note that Zoom says everything starts at 8 AM. You can ignore that! Follow the schedule below or on the calendar on the website.
In order to offer you services at the Morris YC and on Zoom, we have incurred many additional expenses, so think about increasing your donation this year. We are paying rent to Morris, buying a video camera, etc.
If you have any questions, please write to us at yourshulbythesea@gmail.com.
BIG THANKS to Elaine Belasco and Shari Berkowitz, who each purchased 6 new tallitot for the shul. Elaine did the legwork and found beautiful ones for us online. You can read about what happened to the old ones here.
We will also be selling delicious, locally-produced artisanal small batch honey for the holidays. Please place your orders now, at $15 a jar, to sweeten your new year. Write to yourshulbythesea@gmail.com
We will also need help setting up at the Morris on Sept. 6 at 9 AM, hoping to finish by 11 AM. Please write to yourshulbythesea@gmail.com to volunteer. If you can move a chair, we need you.
Wishing you sweetness for the year ahead!
A note from Rabbi David and Rabbi Emerita Shohama
You know TBE as a pathfinder for a vibrantly alive Jewish spirituality, worthy of our highest selves, weaving tradition and reaching forward together. Especially this year, those words aren't slogans: they're our core commitment, our True North.
What we're about to do together has never been done quite this way: necessity is the mother of invention. We will keep before us the journey of the soul of each person and the shared soul of this sacred community.
Our hearts fill with gratitude for your trust and care, and for your partnership to make this year's High Holy Days truly high, and higher, and higher. We eagerly look forward to our journey, in person, on Zoom, together.
With love and blessings,
R. David
R. Shohama
