Thinking About Process Challenges and LRC 2021

It's retreat week here at LRC headquarters.  Seriously, I hope you know we don't have headquarters, but it is retreat week.  This Thursday and Friday a new group of participants will enter into learning something about leadership (hopefully!) through our program.  I found the graphic above online and it got me thinking about process challenges.  You know those, right?  Buried in that KLC competency of "diagnose the situation" is the encouragement to "understand the process challenges."  Ed and Amanda define these process challenges as "issues or barriers among members of a team or organization."  It's "how people work (or don't work) together."  We've seen these play out over and over again.  Everything from getting two differing views to work together on important work to how management can get the vision across to the team to the community having a different vision that a board when some change is needed.  Process challenges.  Ugh.

This week as the LRC retreat happens, we want to show and begin to give a sense as to how these KLC ideas are needed in our lives and community.  Disequilibrium may very well be needed so we have enough heat to get people to care about these things.  But, COVID and various other things have to be considered, as well.  Carpools will look different.  Tables will need to be spread out.  We have a different number of participants than at other times.  All of these factors could easily get in the way of the important work that's needed.  So, process challenges are real.  Understanding these is an important act of leadership.  The process can help us learn.

So, we intend to hold to purpose.  In some respect, process challenges are people challenges.  As we introduce these things, we often ask that daunting question, "As we make progress on certain things, what concern you the most?"  And, those are the types of questions we're considering at this stage of retreat week.

You undoubtedly are facing some process challenges, too.  How might learning what is going on behind what is going on help you?

Happy Monday.  Hope you have a great week.  Let's continue to engage in works of leadership for the good of our community.
