Honoree Ceremony for Native American Hall of Honor Open to Public

BISMARCK, N.D. – On Thursday, Sept. 9, the public is invited to attend an honoring ceremony and exhibition in recognition of three persons being inducted into the Native American Hall of Honor at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum, Bismarck. The 2021 inductees being honored for achievements in the Military-Veteran, Leadership, and Legend award categories are Dave Dauphinais, Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa; Lydia Sage-Chase, Mandan, Hidatsa, Arikara Nation; and Sitting Bull, Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The event will begin with a traditional feed at 5 p.m., followed by the honoree ceremony at 6 p.m. and the Native American Hall of Honor exhibition opening. “We’re pleased to honor achievements by Native Americans who have gone above and beyond in representing their tribes and cultures,” says North Dakota Indian Affairs Commissioner Nathan Davis. The program is a partnership of the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, the State Historical Society of North Dakota, and the State Historical Society Foundation.

This ceremony also includes a special posting of flags of the five tribal nations that share geography with North Dakota to be placed in the Russell Reid Auditorium for ongoing use. Gov. Doug Burgum, tribal leaders, and additional dignitaries will provide remarks.

Masks are strongly recommended. This event will offer social distancing seating options and will also be livestreamed for public access at facebook.com/ndmuseum.
