As I set the intention to work through my boredom, I’ve been taking my own coaching medicine.
- When I’m feeling an emotion I dislike, I lean into it and get curious. I ask, “What am I telling myself about this feeling?” With boredom, I tell myself, “I should be making the most of this time. I should be grateful to be home!” which leads to feeling worse.
- So, I reframe my thinking to, “This feeling of boredom is a body beacon signaling a desire to mix things up! I can use this information to make a change.”
- Finally, I challenge myself to do something about my current state. I say to myself, “Alexis, you have everything you need to change this situation. Get busy.”
My life doesn’t magically turn to fireworks and novelty, but this points me in the right direction and helps me feel back in control.
