Thank you to our library friends and advocates who sent a message of support by telling Milwaukee Public School board members how much you value children's programs at Milwaukee Public Library.
There's still time to make your voice heard!
A historic $506 million in federal stimulus is projected for Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS), and they are considering partnerships to help in facilitating these funds. You can help determine how to spend this once-in-a-generation funding.
By invitation, Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) is seeking $9.9 million of the federal funds that MPS must spend or distribute in the next three years.
This support would offset the cost burden of four high-quality educational services that MPL has been providing to MPS students for decades – at no fee.
- Ready to Read: provides research-based teaching strategies in low-income childcare centers starting with babies as young as 6 months old.
- Summer Reading: engages over 25,000 school-age children in literacy activities during the summer months.
- Library Now: provides every MPS student (75,000+) with a digital library card and facilitates curriculum support for students in and out of the classroom and throughout the year.
- Teen Connected Learning: includes experiential learning, paid internships, access to maker spaces, and mentor partnerships.
