Community is excited to get the 2021-2022 League year started! Over the summer, members participated in plating and dropping off books to many of the Springfield elementary schools! Recently, we provided a large amount of chapter books to the Libertas Academy Charter School that serve grades 6-9! On August 25th, the League donated books to be handed out at a back-to-school event at Rebecca Johnson school that provided students with free haircuts and backpacks! Looking forward, we will be taking over responsibility for filling several local freestanding little libraries—this is a great way for members to continue to be involved as libraries can be filled on their schedules. Please let me know if you would like to be a leader for a location!
As we continue to focus on literacy, we are so excited to coordinate with our friends at The Holyoke Merry-Go-Round for a story time where we can bring our Little Red Wagon and hand out books. More details will be emailed out soon! We will be planning a winter necessities drive for the Friends of the Homeless Shelter this fall, and I am hoping to get a team together for the Hot Chocolate 5k in Northampton that supports Safe Passage.
As always, if you would like to see a new project please let me know! I am so excited to see everyone and looking forward to the League year!
