1. Deborah Wright is a founder and principal of PneuMatrix, a non-profit working with congregations and judicatories to help them address the challenges of adaptive change. Ordained by the PC(USA), she has specialized in adaptive change management, strategic planning, program development, and Positive Deviance implementation as a corporate chaplain. With degrees from Duke University and San Francisco Theological Seminary, she served as Associate Pastor of Calvary SF, was a trustee of the Presbyterian Foundation, and Director of Major Gifts at San Francisco Theological Seminary. She formed Avalon Enterprises, a consultancy practice in funds development, corporate chaplaincy, strategic planning, and project management for NGOs in religion, education, healthcare, and film. Clients have included The George Lucas Educational Foundation, Google, Kaiser Permanente, the PC(USA), the Murphy Cancer Foundation, Callaway Leadership Institute, and Kairos USA. Developing innovative business models for entrepreneurial non-profits has been the hallmark of Deborah’s career.
2. J.C. Austin is the pastor of First Presbyterian, Bethlehem, PA. He received his Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary, with concentrations in New Testament Studies and Homiletics. A lifelong Presbyterian, he was ordained to serve as Associate Pastor for Evangelism and Stewardship at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City, where he helped lead a historic but declining congregation into its first experience of significant growth in vitality, resources, and size in several decades. Following that call, he was a vice president at Auburn Theological Seminary where he built a national reputation as an expert on innovative congregational leadership for the 21st century and served as a Parish Associate at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. In the Presbytery of New York City, J.C. chaired the Grants Committee of the 9/11 Disaster Relief Commission following the September 11 attacks. At the national level, he was appointed to the PC(USA) General Assembly’s Special Committee on the Belhar Confession.
3. Emily Chudy is the transitional co-lead pastor at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Malvern, PA. Emily grew up in Trumbull, CT, attending a nearby UCC church. She graduated from Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, with a double major in American Studies and World Religion and earned both an MDiv and MA in Christian Education from Princeton Seminary. She was ordained by Donegal Presbytery as transitional pastor for Central Presbyterian Church in Downingtown, PA, where she was both co-pastor and lead pastor for nine years. She has served at many levels in the PC(USA), currently co-chairing the General Assembly Special Committee on the Reformed Perspective on Christian Education. For her DMin project at the Boston University School of Theology, Emily is developing a presbytery-based peer-learning cohort to more holistically prepare clergy for the complexities of ministry.
