Welcome to Spring

The changing climate

So many things happening. We can only do, what we can do, and take it day by day. The world seems to be only broadcasting bad news at the moment, whether it be COVID, politics, Afghanistan, earth quakes, floods and fire.

One thing we can do is to turn off the news, and if we must hear it, only hear it once a day. Look after your mental health, even the fittest of us are being affected by COVID fatigue  as it can easily do a 24 hour cycle in our heads, so be kind to yourself and turn off.

One of the things you could do to help with anxiety around the negative news cycle is talk to someone about your fears, many of us have anxiety about the future , be it COVID, employment, housing etc. and sharing with others about what is happening, you will find you are not alone with what is going on, and if need be see a counsellor, psychologist or psychiatrist.

The Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre has free counselling on a Wednesday morning and are able to put you in touch with psychologists who may be able to see someone for free.

The Urban Farm

Enjoying the weather?

The Urban farm is, and so are our water tanks, makes Simon our Horticulturist very happy, we have see him skipping around the farm in his dry-as-a-bone with a big cheesy grin.

The produce at the Urban farm is busting out of the beds, permaculture grown, rained on and good healthy soil is giving the lettuce, beetroot, passion fruit, kale, herbs, limes, snow peas and many other items a great boost.

On a quiet day you can hear the chomping coming from the garden beds. The volunteers have been doing a great job with Simon, re-planting, turning over the soil and the compost, cleaning up the old sweet potato vines.

The warm soil is definitely generating wonderful strong growth

Fresh Organic Food

Come in and visit the Urban Farm, talk to Simon about organically grown food and he can hand pick the kind of salad or veg that you like in front of your eyes.

You cannot get fresher, and it will last in the fridge for the week and not go slimy like what happens when you get it at the supermarket.

So come in and see Simon Tuesday to Saturday, buy some fresher than fresh produce, talk to him about the garden and information about how you can grow your own produce and make your garden smile with goodness and happiness.
The Urban Farms latest venture are Wellness Boxes, apart from freshly picked produce from the farm, herbs and medicinal plants to aid your digestion, good looks and every day health and wellbeing.

Acknowledments

Always, but especially during  COVID-19, community support for the Maroochy Neighbourhood Centre and it’s programs has been exceptional.

When lock down has happened many Cafés, Restaurants, and Supermarkets donated their fresh produce and perishables to the ONE ROOF program, which feed the homeless and more vulnerable in the community.

Oz Harvest has been wonderful in their support for the dinners bringing what would be waste food to the Centre, making a perfectly healthy and nutritious meal out of great food.

Second Bite has come on board recently with Coles providing us with meat and groceries for the meals and hampers.

Community members have been extraordinary, from pensioners who say they did not need their $750 bonus from the Government and donated it to the Centre to purchase food. Also many community members have added purchases to their own shopping and dropping them in to us. A young girl was given a $100 voucher from IGA and gave it to us with an additional $150 from another person, who heard about what she was doing to purchase food for the pantry from which we give out food hampers to those who need it.

Another $350 worth of food was donated today, after calling out on Facebook for specific items.

Thank you so much everyone, for your kindness and generosity.
