Beware of SMS scams

Multiple scam text messages are being sent around by scammers.

While the message has many spelling mistakes and may be sent from anywhere in the world, clicking on the link will result in installing malware named FluBot on the mobile phone. Once installed, the malware can initiate a phone call without your permission, send text messages, and read your contact data.

Here are some tips to ensure you do not fall for scams like this:
  • Do NOT click on the link, and delete the SMS text message immediately
  • Do NOT call back the individual who sent the SMS as they are likely to be the scammer. Their device may be infected, or their number has been spoofed or misused.
