Representative Hernandez wrote these words when Disney announced they would have their first Jewish, Mexican character.
I cannot imagine, as a white male, what it must be like to see yourself represented in the popular culture for the first time. It is a given to me that I will see characters in TV and film that reflect me, at least visually, if not in story.
I am proud to live in a time when there are more opportunities for the Representative Hernandez-es of this world to see themselves reflected back in culture.
