Consider becoming a part-time teaching fellow,
co-teaching CS105 in a high school!

Stanford is partnering with a nonprofit organization called the National Education Equity Lab. In collaboration with top universities, the Equity Lab offers dual enrollment credit-bearing college courses to students in Title 1 high schools (schools in which low-income families make up at least 40% of enrollment). CS105 (taught by Patrick Young) is the first course we will offer.

Do you know someone who might benefit from a chance to co-teach this Stanford course as a part-time Teaching Fellow? Would you like to join this project yourself? We are currently recruiting part-time Teaching Fellows to support 250 high school students who will take the course from 18 schools.

We are looking for people who are proficient in computer science and/or have served as former section leaders and TAs of CS courses, who are interested in mentoring high school students (juniors and seniors) and co-teaching in partnership with a K-12 teacher and a Stanford instructor. Teaching Fellows will be part of a teaching and learning community that makes an educational impact. We will provide training before and during the course to prepare you to teach high school students and will pay at the standard Stanford rate ($22.50/hour).

You can find out more information and apply here by Sept 3 at 11:59pm PDT.

Research Fellowship, Center for Democracy & Technology

The Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) is seeking a Research Fellow with research and/or technical expertise on policy problems related to free expression, content moderation, and artificial intelligence. The Fellow will design and lead research projects that examine, for example, meaningful transparency on social networking services, automated content moderation, or recommender systems and media pluralism. The position also offers opportunities to research other emerging technology policy issues relevant to CDT, and to collaborate with CDT's networks of external academics and partners.

This is a one-year full-time Fellowship, with the possibility of renewal for another year based on performance and availability of funds. The Fellow is expected to complete at least 2 CDT research reports during the year, with the additional option to complete at least 1 academic submission.

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of CDT's research team, informing its policy agenda and contributing to cutting edge tech policy dialogue in the U.S., EU, and around the world. The position is based at CDT’s Washington, DC office, with some allowance for remote work.

Technical Fellow, Schmidt Futures (NYC)
Many of the most pressing global policy challenges today have technical problems at their core (e.g., tech competition with China, AI infrastructure investment, global internet standards, and algorithmic fairness). Yet the top policy research groups and think tanks driving new policy ideas lack technical expertise on staff or within their networks. Solving these challenges requires technical insight, which can uniquely be produced by exceptional technical talent. We are seeking “bilingual Computer Science + policy” experts to help build a next-generation technical strategy group from the ground up. This group aims to develop cutting edge knowledge on tech strategy questions to help shape decision making for policymakers, philanthropists, and other relevant investors.

Health/Information Vulnerability Map, Dr. Seema Yasmin, Stanford Health Communication Initiative
Dr. Seema Yasmin, who directs the Stanford Health Communication Initiative, is leading a research project on health and information equity.  They are looking for additional data scientists to help with the project.  It is a great opportunity for students to apply data science to an important issue in healthcare. This project involves merging and analyzing deserts on news deserts and medical deserts and using GIS to create a map of the U.S. that shows the possible coexistence of these regions, who lives in these "double deserts," and investigating the impact of the decimation of local news on public health.
Roles: GIS mapping, analysis of federal datasets on health deserts and news desert datasets.
