HOME IMPROVEMENT

Tips For Finding Motivation To Improve Your Home

Every home can and should be a beautiful space to live, even if you know it’s not your “forever” home. It can make a huge impact on your life. But, at the same time, life is busy. So, even though you may have big dreams and plans for transforming your home, how do you find the motivation to make that a reality?

Having a home you love matters, and you don’t need to be an interior designer to make beautiful changes. If a certain room is not something you enjoy, don’t settle – here’s how to push past your roadblocks and get to work.

Start With Your Mindset
Environmental psychologists have found that for most people their home is part of their self-definition. You deserve to carve out the time to work on all those projects you’ve been putting off for years. Small steps will always lead to a much bigger change!

Look At Your Budget
As cost for materials skyrocketed over the last year, budgeting is crucial. The best part is that you don’t need a lot of money to make a big difference. After all, this is all about making your home a cozy and welcoming space, which might be as simple as changing the kinds of light bulbs you use.

Setting Expectations
Understanding what will and won’t work for your home will prevent many creative roadblocks from popping up. Pick up interior design magazines from the bookstore and look for home layouts that are similar to yours. Pay attention to the details, as those go a long way. Celebrate small achievements and be sure to take before and after photos. Whenever you find yourself feeling discouraged, flip back through what you’ve accomplished – it will likely be a bigger difference than you realize!

KC VEGAN'S GUIDE
Although KC is home to some pretty incredible BBQ, there are plenty of spots for those on the plant-based diet. If you're vegan, enjoy a meal, snack, or beverage at any of the spots below!

Soulcentricitea: This tearoom on the Troost flies under the radar. They have fabulous teas, especially their hibiscus blend. Their signature drinks are named after black women authors and they promote the "Leave a book, take a book" concept.

Gigi's Vegan + Wellness Cafe: Using eco-friendly material and zero waste, Gigi's Vegan Cafe is perfect for the eco-conscious vegan. Grab breakfast, lunch, dinner, or a delicious cold press juice bottled in recycled glass! They also offer meal prep services.

Mattie's Foods: Put this place on your radar as the best spot for vegan nachos. Their incredible cashew queso and sour cream will leave you wanting more. A sister-run company, they're located on 63rd street, and you can also find their cashew queso in the Nature's Own health food stores.

HOME CARE CORNER
Nothing kills your summer party game like a pool full of algae. Take a few easy steps this month to keep your water in the clear. Test the pH level weekly to make sure chemicals are balanced and safe. The pH level should remain between 7.2 and 7.8. To destroy any contaminants, you'll want to shock the water -- preferably at night so the sun doesn't burn off the chemical cocktail. Dissolve the shock in a bucket of water before adding it to your pool.
