- The Flood Task Force met on Thursday August 26th and discussed the following:
- Prein & Newhof is working on completing the design for the long-term project and preparing the EGLE permit application. For the design work they have completed the following: Geo Tech, Wetland Analysis and Base Plans. They have started the EGLE permit application and had a pre-application meeting with Derek Haroldson from EGLE. They have been delayed getting the hydrogeological study scheduled due to contractor availability. It is now on the schedule. This study is used to determine how fast water flows from the bottom land of the lake. During the study, they will be pumping lake water from the bottom land and putting it back in the lake. The goal is to have the permit submitted to EGLE by October 1, 2021. See the updated timeline here.
- Derek Haroldson, EGLE advised there are three focus areas during the review: 1) Ensuring that the soil will filter out the Aquatic Invasive Species 2) Addressing the downstream concerns 3) Ensuring that there is enough fluctuation of lake levels between the NLL and the operation of the augmentation wells. Tom Smith, P&N, confirmed that they will be specifically focusing on these areas in the documentation for the permit application.
