SARNIA LEGION BRANCH 62 NEWSLETTER

Members General Meeting

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, our membership is unable to meet in person for General Meetings.  We anticipate this to change in the near future.  We thank all of our members for their patience.  

Legion 62 is Open - Come and Support Us! 

The pandemic caused our Legion to temporarily close.  The Executive is working hard to ensure the safety of our members and the community as we reopen.  We are pleased to announce that we are currently open on a limited schedule. 

THURSDAY: 12pm - 8pm
FRIDAY: 12pm - 8pm
SATURDAY: 2pm-6pm  

In September, we plan to open with more hours:

TUESDAY: 2pm-10pm - Ladies fun darts is set to return (1-4pm). Dart League to return (evening). 
THURSDAY: 12pm - 8pm
FRIDAY: 12pm - 8pm
SATURDAY: 12pm - 6pm  

Please stop by and have a drink, play darts, shoot pool and enjoy our new Patio 62.  

The Legion exists to serve our Veterans and their family members however our local Legion is here for its members and the community.  

Congratulations Comrade Bill Chafe

During the 48th Dominion Convention of The Royal Canadian Legion, held virtually over the weekend of August 13th to the 15th, our own Bill Chafe was installed as Dominion Chair.

This is Bill's third term in this position and we appreciate his knowledge, guidance and dedication to The Royal Canadian Legion both locally and nationally.

Events Committee - Volunteers Needed

In 2022, Sarnia Legion Br 62 intends to provide an array of events for its members and the community.
In order to be successful, we need volunteers who want to help in any capacity with organizing these events.

Jan 22, Saturday - Robbie Burns - Ticketed Dinner 
March 1, Tuesday - Shrove Tuesday
May 7, Saturday - Battle of the Atlantic 
June 19, Sunday (held on Father’s Day) Decoration Day - Pipers – small lunch downstairs (actual date is June 2)
June - TBD - Veterans Summer lunch 
July 1, Friday - Canada Day 
September 17, Saturday - Octoberfest – Ticketed Dinner and event
November 1, Saturday - Remembrance Day Dinner - Military event, ticketed event
November 10, Thursday - Candlelight Vigil 
November 11, Friday - Remembrance Day 
December, TBD - Special Needs Christmas Party
December, TBD - Veterans Christmas Lunch
December 31, Saturday - New Years – Ticketed Dinner and a Dance

3: Attend the Legion in Person

You can pay for your membership with a cheque payable to "Sarnia Legion Branch 62" or with Cash.  Speak to the bartender on duty downstairs and they will complete the purchase.  

4: Write a cheque to your local Branch

Write a cheque to "Sarnia Legion Br. 62" for $52.00.  Place cheque in our mailbox located at 286 Front Street North, Sarnia, ON.  On the envelope, indicate your name and contact number you can be reached.  If you have it, please also include your membership number.  Membership Chair will follow up with you accordingly.

Any Canadian citizen or citizen of an Allied nation who is 18 years of age or older is welcome to become a member of the Legion. There are four main categories of membership:

Ordinary membership

Includes still serving and retired military, reservists, RCMP, police officers, Canadian Coast Guard, and others listed in the General By-Laws.

Associate membership

Includes parents, spouses, widows, widowers, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces as well as nephews of a person who is or was eligible for Ordinary membership.

Affiliate voting membership

Includes Canadian citizens or Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives and are not eligible for ordinary or associate membership.

Affiliate non-voting membership

Includes non-Canadian citizens or non-Commonwealth subjects from an Allied nation who support The Royal Canadian Legion’s aims and objectives.

Lunch at the Legion

The Sarnia Legion Ladies Auxiliary now offers your choice of a delicious sandwich, cabbage rolls or chili

Thursday:
Sandwiches: $5.00
Egg Salad, Salmon or Tuna with slaw.  

Friday:
2 cabbage rolls and a bun: $5.00

Saturday:
Chili and a bun: $5.00

Drink: $1.25
Keurig Coffee, decaf and regular.
Keurig Tea, decaf and regular.

Jam At The Legion

In September, Sarnia Legion Br 62 intends to bring back Jam at the Legion.  This will be open to the public.

Did you know that the Sarnia Legion is open to the public during the week and on Saturdays?

The Sarnia Legion has a bar in the downstairs that is open to the public. Free darts and the pool table is $2 a game.

Nevada Gold break open tickets are available for purchase!

Ice cold and reasonably priced beer, wine and well drinks. Some might say they are the best prices in town.

The bartenders wanted me to remind you they are the best bartenders in the world. 

Ladies Fun Darts is Returning! 

Beginning at the end of September.  Ladies fun darts, every Tuesday 1-4.  Contact Heather Lindsay, 519-464-7447 if you are interested in playing.
