Commissioners proclaimed September 15 through October 15, 2021, as Hispanic Heritage Month in Hillsborough County, praising the achievements and contributions of Hispanic Americans, especially those who have positively impacted Hillsborough County culturally, educationally, and in numerous other ways.

Olympian Erriyon Knighton Recognized
The BOCC presented Erriyon Knighton, a senior at Hillsborough High School, a commendation for becoming the youngest U.S. Olympic Track Team member in decades, and narrowly missing out on a bronze medal in the 200-meter final at the recently completed Summer Games in Tokyo.

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
Recognizing the importance of suicide prevention, the mental health needs of military members and veterans, and the lifesaving services provided by local organizations and the County, the BOCC declared September 2021 as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

Report Spotlights Important Affordable Housing Projects
The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners accepted the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) Annual Report, which recaps the Hillsborough County projects that were funded in 2018-2019 through the SHIP program and the number of households affected. The report shows that 26 households received housing rehabilitation services, 67 households got down-payment assistance, and a 28-unit multifamily development was acquired and rehabbed.
