Pick Up Your Library Card during Library Card Sign-Up Month this September!
 
Alexandria Library has joined the American Library Association and libraries nationwide for Library Card Sign-Up Month, an initiative to highlight the value of a library card. This year's theme is "#LibrariesEmpower".

Celebrate with us by getting a library card at your local library branch. Replacement cards are FREE this month. For more information on how to sign up for a library card, visit the Library in person or online at alexlibraryva.org.

Tai Chi at Beatley Library
Thursday, September 2 at 5:30pm - 6:30pm
On the first Thursday of the month - from September to December - join Jorge Banales as he gives instruction on the Yang Style 24 Movement Tai Chi form. Program hosted at Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library's Frank and Betty Wright Reading Garden.

Storytime in the Reading Garden!

Children love to be outdoors! Join us in Beatley Central Library's beautiful outdoor Reading Garden for stories, songs and movement tailor made for children ages 0-5! Additional programs on Tuesday, September 14September 21 and September 28.

Tween Art: Painted Twig Sculpture
Tuesday, September 7 at 4:00pm - 5:00pm
Using twigs and paint, make a masterpiece of your own to take home. Also, help create an art piece that will be on display in the children’s area of Beatley Central Library! Ages 8-14.

Fall Outdoor Event - Book Sale/Author Talk/Craft Workshop
Saturday, September 11 at 11:00am - 4:00pm
Join us at Kate Waller Barrett Branch for an outdoor event and take part in a book sale, author talk and craft workshop. Rain date to be determined.

Irish Breakfast Band
Saturday, September 25 at 11:00am - Noon
Join us in the garden for a performance by Del Ray's own Irish Breakfast Band.

Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
Saturday, September 25 at 1:30pm - 3:30pm
Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with music, crafts, and food! This year the fiesta will take place outside in Beatley Central Library's beautiful Reading Garden. All ages.

Le Tour d'Alexandria Library Bike Tour (Saturday, Oct. 2)

 
Do you enjoy biking in Alexandria? Alexandria Library invites the community to participate in Le Tour d’Alexandria Library, the Library’s annual bicycle tour of all library locations on Saturday, October 2. On this bicycle tour, participants will learn about the history of Alexandria Library.

Parking will be limited at the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Central Library, located at 5005 Duke Street in Alexandria, due to a parking lot improvement project. The branch and parking lot will remain open during construction; however, sections of the parking lot will be closed during construction causing limited parking.

Celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month
(September 15 through October 15)

Beginning Wednesday, September 15, Alexandria Library will host programs that highlight the rich Hispanic heritage in our community. During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15), we recognize the important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States and celebrate their contributions to our culture.

Constitution and Citizenship Day commemorates September 17, 1787, when the Founding Fathers signed the United States Constitution at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. Check out the Library's Constitution Week page for Databases, Kids/Young Adult books, and more.

Banned Books Week (September 26 - October 2) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read. Typically held during the last week of September, it spotlights current and historical attempts to censor books in libraries and schools.
