This month we are focusing on our impact on those around us. We can make a difference each day for our family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and community strangers by performing simple acts of kindness. After a year and a half of living in a pandemic, let’s take a moment to brighten the day of those around us. The Journal of Psychology found that those who performed acts of kindness for just seven days saw a boost in their own happiness. So not only are you improving the life and happiness of someone in your community, but you will benefit as well.
During September, you are challenged to do small random acts of kindness for those in your life or in your community. Whether you plan on doing good deeds every day or just once a week, it all matters.
Here are some examples of what you can do:
-
Give a generous tip to your server, hairdresser/barber, etc.
-
Text a friend you haven’t spoken to in a while and tell them they are awesome.
-
Help a neighbor – rake their yard, take out their trash, etc.
-
Leave a kind comment on someone’s social media post.
-
Carry a senior’s groceries to the car.
-
Share or repost a friend’s business post/information.
-
Babysit for a single mom.
-
Call a lonely relative and say hi.
-
Pass around chocolate or another treat at work.
-
Walk a neighbor’s dog.
-
Do a favor and ask nothing in return.
-
Buy the person behind you in line a cup of coffee.
-
Leave a snack or water out for your mail person.
-
Send a thank you to someone who made a difference in your life.
-
Wave & smile to those who drive down your street.
Remember consistency is important to see the physical and emotional health benefits of kindness. So even after September consider making acts of kindness part of your ongoing routine.
Share your random acts of kindness with us at hr@ccsjuneau.org. We would love to anonymously share what our staff is doing for others during the month of September.
