This week in the U.S. Congress the House acted with a procedural vote, setting the stage for the high stakes move to pass both the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure bill and fill in the details of the $3.5 trillion reconciliation package as soon as the end of next month.
Within the infrastructure bill, the energy investments total around $100B – a lot of funding, no doubt. Even at this level, while there are many aspects that will benefit the electric grid, there are some that did not make it in. In this article on our website, find out what's in, what's "sort of" in and what's not.

"Is the bipartisan package a major investment in our grid? YES! Is this something that the House should take up and pass as soon as possible? YES! Would another $200B (or more) for energy and grid in a reconciliation package help move the functionality of our system ahead? YES!"

With the move this week by the House, these two efforts indeed have intertwined destinies. Both sides of Congress now will be hard at work over coming days and weeks to fill in the details of the $3.5 trillion reconciliation package. We have a good sense of what some of those key energy related aspects may be, tallying likely well beyond the $198 billion outlined for the energy committee, including these: direct clean energy spending program, investments in electrified transportation transition, clean energy accelerator, and adjustments for tax incentives.
We are certainly hoping that the infrastructure package does move through the House by the September 27 deadline. We also hope that the reconciliation package has a once-in-a-generation investment in energy and grid. We're actively involved to help guide the aspects related to grid modernization capabilities in both packages.
