DKH Requires COVID-19 Vaccinations for Workforce

DKH is requiring all members of its workforce receive at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by November 1, 2021 as a condition of employment unless they are granted a medical exemption or deferral, or an approved religious exemption. The requirement aligns with the Connecticut Hospital Association’s statewide commitment by Connecticut’s hospitals, announced in June, endorsing mandatory COVID-19 vaccination for hospital and health system employees and clinical staff. Day Kimball Healthcare Plans For Administering Booster Doses
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for individuals 16 years of age and older. Additionally, COVID-19 booster shots will be available to all American adults starting September 20. The plan calls for a booster shot eight months after receiving the second dose of either a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna mRNA vaccination. Keep reading >

U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney Visits Hospital

On August 6, U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney visited Day Kimball Hospital to meet with administration and medical leadership, as well as CT Senator Mae Flexer. During his visit, the Congressman learned about our hospital’s accomplishments, challenges, and needs. As part of the conversation, DKH leadership thanked Congressman Courtney for championing health care in our state and region, and particularly for their recent support in acquiring technology enhancements within the organization's diagnostic imaging service line.
 

Local Family Makes Heartfelt Donation to Benefit the Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH

The Solomon family has donated $1,500 to the NECT Cancer Fund of DKH in memory of the life of their family member and DKH’s 2018 NECT Cancer Fund Walk & Race Angel Ambassador, Shannon Labonte. Since Shannon's passing, the Solomon family and friends have organized various fundraisers to benefit the Shannon Lee Labonte Scholarship Fund at Putnam High School and other causes that she held close at heart to honor her memory and fulfill her goal of supporting access to high quality local cancer care. DKH Employee Shares Why She Relays

Long-time Relay for Life participant, Patty Erskine, administrative assistant in the Emergency Department at DKH, recently took part in her 24th relay, alongside her sister. This year's event as an "Around the World" theme and was held at the Brooklyn Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 7. Patty is no stranger to cancer and all that comes with it. Not only does she participate in Relay for Life in memory of her cousin who passed away from cancer and as a thankful survivor herself, but also for a cure to end the disease. 
 

DKH's August Employee of the Month

Gary Pazienza, perioperative registered nurse at Day Kimball Hospital, has been named our employee of the month for August! Gary began his career at DKH in 2016. In his role, he is responsible for assisting with patient care, including pre-operative assessments, intraoperative positioning and anesthesia, and post-operative communication. Keep reading >

Cruise, BBQ & Brew Raises Over $27,000 

A huge thank you to all of our sponsors, participants, volunteers, donors and hosts Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and Black Dog Bar & Grille for an incredible Cruise, BBQ & Brew event on Sunday, August 15. Our Cruisin’ for Cancer Care Committee welcomed 200 participants to the event whose generosity, along with that of our sponsors SPIROL, WIN Waste Innovations, Centreville Bank, and Mr. Chris Robert and the Robert Family Charitable Fund raised over $27,000 for the NECT Cancer Fund of DKH. Congratulations to Jennifer Cooney of Plainfield who was the lucky winner of a backpack filled with school supplies!

We are so glad to support our community kids and their education all year round, and this helps a local family right in time for back-to-school! The items were part of DKH's free drawing featured at our booth at Celebrate Plainfield Day which was held on Saturday, August 7.

Don't miss a fun-filled day for pups and their families while supporting the NECT Cancer Fund of DKH! Our Canines for Cancer Care event celebrates survivors, honors canine caregivers and those battling cancer, and memorializes loved ones lost to this disease. Activities include "Wag this Way" laps around the track, demonstrations, games, and contests. Exhibits feature pet products, food vendors, and more! CRAFTERS/VENDORS STILL WANTED! Learn more >

 

Free Event | Men's Health Day

Tuesday, October 26 | Day Kimball Hospital
DKH's department of Urology is pleased to host a FREE prostate cancer screening for men who are uninsured or underinsured. Screening includes: PSA blood test, medical history review and digital rectal exam by DKH Urologist, Dr. Stephen Schiff, follow-up with a nurse navigator, and education and information on risks and symptoms of prostate cancer. Hospice & Palliative Care of Northeastern Connecticut's in-person bereavement support groups for adults have returned! These groups provide a community of empathy and support for adults who have experienced the death of a loved one. Registration is required.
