Tony's Weekend Weather
Don’t feel too distressed about being locked-down this weekend; weather around the country is not going to be fabulous. Although there’ll be some showers in Kapiti it’ll be mostly OK for outdoor chores, walking, cycling, etc.
Why not take some time to explore the weather apps such as Windy and Meteoblue, which are great for supplementing the official MetService information. Both apps use excellent global weather model data to provide automated spot forecasts for pretty much any location you choose.
Meteoblue forecasts include useful ‘predictability’ information that gives an indication of how much confidence we can have in the forecasts. That’s important, because sometimes weather conditions are so volatile that even the best models and forecasters can’t be certain what will happen.
Windy, as well as having options to display a range of weather information, including cloud base and visibility fields, also has a very useful slider that allows you see the altitude you want wind display at. You can also select different forecast models to see how they compare - the more closely they agree, the more confidence you can have in the forecast.
EFB apps, such as AvPlan and OZRunways also contain useful weather features that you might not have discovered yet. For instance, you can open a Windy window on OzRunways to see weather conditions along your route.
