The McFerren Plot debuts early September

The McFerren Plot
By Martha McFerren
Our first venture in the River Poets Series of DVille Press is well-known New Orleans poet Martha McFerren with her newest collection The McFerren Plot set to be available in early September. The book which has gone to press, is a wonderfully funny and eclectic series of poems drawn from the past decade. Peter Cooley of N.O., renown poet and teacher, says of this book: "A deeply felt affection for experience dances through these exuberant poems whose surfaces delight as much as their hard-won truths." The book can be pre-ordered now from our website www.dvillepress.com.

We welcome other Louisiana poets to submit their work for the River Poets series, the only stipulation: the poet must have been published in at least two literary periodicals.
Jazz Stories Reviewed by Local Writer
Jazz Stories, the collection of short stories by Arthur Pfister aka Professor Arturo was reviewed recently by Willmarine B. Hurst, free lance writer out of New Orleans. About Pfister's work she writes, the book is "jazzed up with stories, idioms and expressions which paints a nostalgic mural of the city [N.O.] from a former lifetime..." Pfister is "a master of word manipulation and rhyming schematics." Her review will be posted soon on Pfister's page on our website. The book also contains contemporary Creole adaptations of five stories by classic writers such as Dickens, de Maupassant and Poe, all expressing the spoken word art of "the Professor."

Edwin & I is a Good Read to Celebrate
Life of Gov. Edwin W. Edwards

Edwin & I
By Bob Crowley
Joining the book shelf of works about Louisiana's most colorful governor in the late 20th century is Edwin & I: The Life and Times of the Cajun Prince as Told by His Conscience by Bob Crowley, a droll tribute to a man he knew well personally and also in state politics. Edwards who passed away July 12 at age 93 knew great success but also served an 8-year sentence in federal prison in the early 2000s. Crowley's book reveals a more personal look at Edwards than most written about him.
Murder on the Teche a Textbook Case
With college courses in Louisiana history and criminal justice beginning the new semester, we recommend Tom Aswell's meticulously researched book Murder on the Teche: A True Story of Money and a Flawed Investigation about the violent death of a New Iberia orthodontist in 2010. The incident and how it was handled make a textbook case for how sometimes people MIGHT get away with murder and raises troubling questions about sheriffs' departments throughout Louisiana.

Cane River Stories Lined up
for Fall Publication

Mecshelle Kochinsky and daughter Ashley Morgan

Old Creole Times as Told by the People of Cane River is part of our fall publishing line-up. Mecshelle Kochinsky has collected and edited a series of stories and musings by people who grew up as she did in the unique community of Cane River near Natchitoches, LA mid-20th century. Though dealing with local histories, the appeal of her book is its willingness to open up what has been a fairly insular group of families -- whom she loves --  to a wider world and readership.
DVille Press Additional Titles
