The solar market is contracting in many places right now. For the first time since 2015 national installation volumes have fallen below the same volume in the same month of the previous year.

That’s due to a combination of factors, some of which will persist for months, others for years. COVID is impacting supply chains and driving up equipment prices. Lockdowns are hampering ability to install, and poor consumer confidence is dampening leads. Throw into the mix export constraints, the solar tax, and falling feed-in tariffs and salespeople's jobs just got harder. 

It’s not all doom and gloom. Solar remains the smartest investment around - where else can you get a low-risk, 20% return on investment each year for more than a decade? Finance your system and you’ll end up with more cash in your wallet each month. Rooftop solar remains Australia’s leading way of fighting climate change. You’re in an industry that’s on the right side of history.
 

So what can you do to weather the storm?

The solar slowdown has had five years of unbroken growth. But before 2016 the ups and downs that the industry went through were described as a ‘solar coaster’. Plenty of people have been through this before, and know what to do to survive. Inevitably some solar businesses will outperform the market and set themselves up for years to come.

It is possible to thrive during these times, you just got to know how. You just need to listen to the people who’ve been through this before.
