Statement by Andrew Woodward, General Manager, North Coast Football
A decision will be made next week on the future of the 2021 football season on the North Coast.
Considering yesterday’s announcement by the NSW Government, we have been looking at options for the conclusion of the football season.
The options are to resume football, with semi-finals and grand finals, when the lockdown concludes, or end the season with no further football.
We will be talking to our clubs over the coming days before making a decision and announcement mid-next week.
From an organisation perspective, we are keen to end the season on the pitch rather than on paper.
We accept, however, there is anxiety in the community that may lead some people to choose not to return to football. We respect that.
Adding uncertainty to the situation is that we don’t know if the government will allow community sport to resume even if the lockdown is lifted.
We do not have the ability or want to extend junior or senior competitive finals, except Coastal Premier League, beyond September.
National Premier League Youth can play through until the end of October or early November.
The locally-run Skills Acquisition Program has now concluded.
We are conscious of the want of everyone for some certainty, and announcements will be made as soon as possible.
