Orange Shirt Day

Photo of a Zoom meeting in which the participants are wearing orange shirts.

The summer of 2021 was a summer of orange shirts as Indigenous communities across the country shared the truth they have always known: that many of the children who never returned from residential schools remain on the grounds of those institutions in unmarked burial sites. These communities are now seeking to honour the missing children.

This Orange Shirt Day is also the first observance of a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. For settler Christians in particular, this is a time when we can reflect on our role in colonialism and the residential school system, and our ongoing responsibility to make reparations. Church and State: Two United Church Ministers on their Role in Politics

Photo of the Canadian parliament building on a sunny day.

With the federal election just weeks away, why not explore some titles by two United Church ministers who enjoyed political careers alongside their ministry? In The Blaikie Report, Bill Blaikie reflects on three decades in the House of Commons. And The Queer Evangelist is Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo's recently released memoir, charting her life story from living on the streets as a teen to becoming an MPP and social justice advocate.
